Danny Wilson to Liverpool

Recommended Posts

very disappointed he wants to leave, he could easily stay here for another 3 years and go down to england when hes still only 21. Obviously money talks and he wants to go, not much we can do about that except get as good a deal for him as we can. I would rather we get some money for him now than keep him for another year and lose him for next to nothing.

fair enough if Wilson wants to leave, but what is annoying me right now is that the club is being put in the position of selling players for a knock-down price when handing out a few contract extensions 18 months ago would have stopped this situation. Okay things were a bit worse money wise back then, but what is the point of wilfully putting yourself in the position of losing players for less than their reasonable market value?

Maybe Wilson was always keen on going once interest was there, but if he had 3 years on his contract then he would be going for more £££ But maybe Liverpool wouldnt have wanted him then, who knows.

Likewise Thomson going for £2m and Boyd for nothing. I am pretty sure new contracts for those two 18 months ago, or even a year ago for Thomson, would have ensured they were still at Ibrox.

Murray Park is paying dividends, but the club seem happy to take a lower dividend than they could actually get if some sensible forward planning was in place.

RANGERS can confirm that a deal in principle has been agreed with Liverpool to take defender Danny Wilson to Merseyside.

The 18-year-old defender was due to fly to Australia this evening for the Light Blues' pre-season tour.

However after months of speculation Liverpool contacted the club and finally agreed a deal for the youngster.

With Wilson due to depart the country a deal was agreed in principle with Roy Hodgson's team but remains subject to paperwork being completed.

A product of the Murray Park youth project, Wilson had just twelve months of his Rangers contract remaining.

Chief Executive Martin Bain said: "We have agreed a deal in principle with Liverpool for the transfer of Danny Wilson.

"Liverpool's offer will see the club receive £2million up front with add-ons linked to games played taking the total value of the deal to £5million.

"Danny was entering the final year of his contract with the club and had indicated that he felt it was in his interests to move on.

"Given that and the value of the offer from Liverpool it was deemed appropriate to accept that offer given the player wanted to go.

"We are aware that with Kevin Thomson and Danny leaving the club in the last week that there is a need to add to the first team squad.

"Our efforts remain focused on doing that during this transfer window.

"We have been active in that regard with the resources that we have and we do recognise that we have to add to a squad that is light in numbers."

Wilson made his debut in October 2009 in a League Cup tie against Dundee at Dens Park and went on to earn 24 starts in his first season in the Light Blues' top team.

Meanwhile Walter Smith has confirmed that Sasa Papac will be out for approximately ten days with the knee injury that kept him out of the club's Australian tour.

The Bosnian defender picked up a knock against Queen of the South but should be fit again by the time the team return from their pre-season trip.

STV said £2m rising to £5m with add on's.

TBH not a bad deal for a young player and with only a year to go on his contract. Did not want anymore to go but tbh he was always going to leave so better to get some money for him.

just seen it ssn there only stumbling block is the transfer fee . lets be honest ,he walks away next season for nothing so they will take anything for him just now . remember back in january when walter smith did say and i quote if things are bad now then wait till the summer . so far its happening. all the youth team have been told by durrant to expect first team action next season as there going to be in the first team next year and that was derek johnston that reveald that on his radio phone in show when we didnt sign anyone in january.

A player that has only had 24 starts, has one year left on his contract and wouldnt have been anywhere near the first team if it had'nt been for a unfit bougie. 5million is a cracking bit of business.

Brilliant player with immense potential, but this is a shocking move for him.

He won't play, he'll be sold next summer to some two bob outfit and will wonder why he left The Rangers, don't let the door hit you on the arse Danny boy (tu)
