Edmiston Drive 3,846
well getting back to the top of Scottish football is straight forward, no discussions needed. Walter Smith sent Celtic a message last week and now the SFA/SPL today. that they are ready to come back into the fold and its all got to do with signing the tv deal to save Scottish football. CG mouth was his downfall, and telling everyone he would not sign it, and the wheels to remove him went into overdrive last week with all gravity. The fulcrum of all the moves is Walter Smith, he is in charge, so back to SDM era, lets see how things pan out.Wish Walter would just go and settle in Arizona. Edmiston Drive 3,846
Thanks ED, I think. So anyone feeling slight distress at the claims and counterclaims published hourly in the media are all guilty of being handwringers? Surely we are all distressed to a degree? Are we all handwringers.FTR, SNP allegiances are almost dead. I think Ill stand for the BNP in the Western Isles.Ochone Angus
j1mgg 3,766
Looks like the lying down and pandering to everyone has already started, expect the tv rights to be signed over next week and us to be part of SPL 2.At least I had hope for just over 8 months that we wouldn't be taken advantage of again. ForeverBlue_Since91 2,895
WALTER SMITH will help Rangers interim chief executive Craig Mather begin his job by meeting the game’s ruling bodies and opening fresh dialogue with them.Ibrox fans have been calling for Smith to have a more hands-on role ever since Charles Green announced he was stepping down last Friday. And the need for a better relationship between Rangers and the SFA, as well as the SPL, has been evident since the club went into liquidation last summer.Mather admitted he had requested talks with Smith and asked him to act as his “mediator” with the ruling bodies. The move has been made while Rangers are under the internal investigation into the running of the club they themselves demanded take place. And Mather, a million-pound investor in the club, was transparent about what he needs to do to improve the club’s standing in the weeks ahead while proving he has the right credentials to be given the job on a permanent basis. He said: “There’s a middle ground that needs to be struck and the first big job is to get in front of the various football associations for open and frank talks.“I’ve spoken to Walter and he’s offered to mediate in the early stages. The Rangers fans want the club back at the top of Scottish football once again and that means we should leave no stone unturned until we get there.”The relationship between the chief executive and manager Ally McCoist will also be crucial. There was a distinctly cool atmosphere between McCoist and Green after the latter described the Third Division champs as the worst side in the club’s history. But Mather said: “I’ve been working hard to get know the character and the dynamic of the man. I need to work with Ally as we approach the next transfer window.“I love everything to do with this club, the people at Murray Park and the history of Rangers. I’ve always wanted to be a more integral part of the business. But never for one second did I think it would happen so fast.“I do believe it’s the right thing to help move the club on. But I know it’s impossible to judge someone until you hand him the remit to carry out his job.“The club is stable and in fantastic shape. There are no grey areas and no financial problems in any shape or form.“What we need to do now is put the building blocks in place to take the club back to the top.”Mather acknowledges that after the episodes involving Craig Whyte’s ownership and Green’s retreat from Rangers under a cloud, the fans are looking at any incomer with a wary eye.But he said: “The Rangers fans have been outstanding in their support of the club through the most difficult of times.“I know they don’t know me and might have some doubts. I hope to dispel all of those doubts. I know there have been rumours about who’s supposed to be connected with whom but I prefer to distance myself from all of that.“I know what my own hard work has achieved, and where it has taken me. I will use all of that experience and knowledge to help improve Rangers.“I can’t honestly say I’ve always been a Rangers fan but I can say, with profound honesty, that I’ve been around football all of my life and have known of Rangers and their huge successes for many years.“One of my parents was born and raised in Scotland and I can remember being taken to an Old Firm game. I have never forgotten the experience. Ever. The noise and the passion made the hairs on a young man’s arm stand on end.“I would describe myself as being a calculated individual on a normal basis but this is the first time in my life that I’ve made an emotional investment in a job.“When I was asked about this opportunity to become chief executive I had to ask myself more than once if this was all for real.“I’m well aware of what the club means to so many people and they deserve so much better than they’ve been getting of late.“My job will be to put in the work which makes them even prouder to be Rangers fans.“I’d like to make it clear that the chief executive’s job is a position I’d like to take on permanently.”Mather now wants to participate in the debate over league reconstruction. He said: “The initial priority for the club is to get clarity on what the future holds for reconstruction and I hope to meet with the football authorities as soon as possible.“Rangers have an important role to play in Scottish football and it would be beneficial for this club and football in general for me, with other representatives of Rangers, to talk openly and constructively to people in the game and I look forward to doing that.”Rangers chairman Malcolm Murray insisted Mather had been the unanimous choice of the Ibrox board. He said: “Craig will be Rangers’ chief operating officer as well as acting chief executive and this will allow the club, and the company, to keep moving forward.“Craig will lead the business on a day-to-day basis but I want to make it clear that we are in a healthy position financially following the successful flotation of the company in Decemberlast year.“I would also like to assure all supporters that this money is being used for the benefit of the club and nothing, or no one, else.”Murray also commented on the appointment of legal firm Pinsent Masons to handle the investigation into the club’s internal affairs. He said: “This process will be completed as swiftly as possible and no one should jump to any conclusions regarding the outcome.“The fans deserve to be reassured on clarity, transparency and asset ownership, and this is the main purpose of the inquiry.“The last week or so has been turbulent for the club but we should bear in mind that the process of rebuilding is well under way.”http://www.dailyreco....-craig-1852378Who are these fans? ForeverBlue_Since91 2,895
Walter smith needs to be told what the Rangers fans think about him. He is a legend and one of the best managers at Rangers that i have saw anyway. But he needs to be told that this dignified pish doesn't work, he needs to be told to stop trying to get pally with people who hate Rangers and wouldn't care if they went bust tomorrow. He needs to see what the fans see and read on a daily basis from the obsessed peados across the city and every other no mark fucker who supports an SPL team.Walter smith had his chance to take over Rangers in the summer he never, charles Green let him on the board and now he' trying to take over without putting a penny in. Ger_onimo 20,488
The animosity towards Walter on here lately is bizarre. When exactly did that start? We were fucked by a "Rangers man" - Murray. Then we were fucked by a non "Rangers man" - Whyte. At some point after that, "Rangers men" became the enemy, and Walter, being one of the biggest of all, became a hate-figure. The logic is completely lost on me, I must say.

Brian Fantana 28,894
i think a lot need to accept that we will have a revolving door of CEO's over our future. Majority shares will be bought and sold and the board will change as will the sway of voting.our setup dictates that we will have CEO's in and out until we get someone who can meet the fans demands, and given the split we seem to have between fans groups, that will be a long time coming. 16BlueSherbert90 19,654
Okay, I am not overly keen on the idea of having WS pushing for us to have relations with the SPL nor SFA....we need someone who backs us up, not back us into a corner and I know WS likes being the amiable gentleman, but bowing down to these shower of complete a*seholes is not going to win favours with the majority of the fans. Forgiving and forgetting what they did to us is a big no no. The dignified silence and not keeping fans in the loop is what is killing our passion and our confidence in the board. However, I have no animosity against a legendary Manager that got us 9-in-a-row etc
