Yes - he was my first choice for the position.

Even if it doesn't work out, it's the most sensible option for the short term but I'd like to see him do well and carry on.

No brainer, we get to try before we buy and bearing that in mind we should offer managers 1 year deals in future and forget rolling contracts. If they are confident in their ability they'll have no problems accepting it and if they're not up to job then adios without mega pay off .
