Happy with this.

If he does well and scores a good few goals in the top flight then he earns a new contract.

If not, then it shows he isn't ready to take the step up and should probably get a new club elsewhere.

Obviously open ourselves up to the risk of a bates like scenario, but it's worth the risk.

it’s happened to us before like when we couldn’t sign Dom Ball on a pre contract because Spurs had first option on renewing his contract for another year, think the same happened with Toral maybe. If we’ve got that option I don’t think clubs can negotiate till we say we’re not taking it up.
