When the Old Firm players socialised after the game!!

Recommended Posts

Apparently some of the celtic and Rangers players would meet for a drink in the city centre after the Old Firm games.  Wonder what they talked about.  An old pal of mine suggested football was their job and they viewed it differently than the fans would.  Tommy Gemmell and Willie Henderson apparently enjoyed a refreshment together.  Does this happen today?

Many will know each other from national teams, playing together as youths etc - wouldn’t be surprised if golf outings and the like are a lot more common than we think.

Remember Katic mentioning he’s friendly with Simunovic recently (and Benkovic while he was there).

Been to a few boxing events over the years. Both ex Rangers and celtic players would be in the bar afterwards. Would soon split into different camps but no bother at all. Its the new breed that is the problem, they want political change by breaking up our United Kingdom. Mon tae fuck, we can't let the fenians takeover by our backdoor here in Scotland. No danger.

Mon the UK. Keep fighting no matter what.

We had Willie Henderson as an after dinner speaker many years ago and he told the story that during an old firm game Gemmell would upend him and whilst Henderson was still on the ground Gemmell stood above him pointing at him.

The Rangers end would be going bananas and Henderson says Gemmell would be asking him where they were going for a pint after the game.

Think it happened more when the 2 teams were full of Scottish players that could leave the divide on the pitch.
That divide has been ramped up far too much by ScumFc and bought into by their players these days, if any of our team today were socialising with that shower of scum they deserve to be punted.

Sure I’ve read in the past that Shagger and Alan Thompson drank in the same pub together.

Thompson has a reputation as an alky.  I heard celtic sacked him because of it.  Not as a player, but later in his coaching role.

Thompson and Lennon were sent home after turning up at Lennoxtown honking.

This may be the incident your thinking of?

I've often seen Rangers players in restaurants, and I've often seen celtic players, but never together.

Seen Ricksen and Thompson (celtic one) talking and laughing at bottom of Buchanan Street.

Thought it odd but was at a speakers night and Kenny Clark the ex  referee said that they used to kick hell out each other but were good mates.
