Is It Time For A New Captain ?

Think the odds of us retaining the title under Gerrard were looking slim tbh. Our performances were fucking awful and unsustainable, while they were going from strength to strength under a very good manager. He totally fucked it that summer putting his foot down to keep the squad together.

Based on?

He’s basically a quarterback whose natural game is to start moves and drive his team forward. Like so many others, he has been misused under the old regime but you could still see his potential.

Getting Jack and Lundstram out of the way will help him (and the team as a whole) and I also think that, although Clement’s English is superb, a lieutenant on the pitch who shares his language has to make quick and clear communication easier.

Gerrard was a success but he left at the right time because we weren't going to win the title that year under him either

But before that he improved us each season, eventually won the league, brought some respect and standards back and made us a formidable side in Europe, which in many aspects even more so than pre-2012

A 'quarterback' who can't pass isn't going to go far.

What?

He’s a talented young player who started well with us but suffered as the SS Beale began to flounder.

Most of us considered the first two signings (Cantwell and Raskin) have been, along with the keeper, the best since Gio left.

He's got plenty of energy(at times) and gets stuck in(at times). Never a 'quarterback' in a million years though. His passing is really poor.

We’ll see.

Not prepared to write off a 22 year old who has had the misfortune to be managed most recently by Del Boy.

He's never a quarterback type.

A do think he's lacking in confidence tho, and there's a player there. When he first came in he was zipping passes around (not long Alonso types lol) and looked a right decent find but like everyone else he has went to absolute shite.

Hopefully he will come good.

English will be the language used mate. I'm sure Clement's native tongue is Dutch and Raskin's is French.

I wouldn't write him off, but he has been bang average. He has a lot to prove.

Would be unwise to make him captain if he improves. You want a player who is commited to the club to be your captain. Not someone who sees us as a stepping stone. Zero stability if you do that. Could be looking for a new captain within months.
