A Horse With No Name 27
Seems David Murray’s trying to hug the headlines yet again!! Another arse-licking visit from Chick Young is on the cards no doubt… Of course I want our home to get a 70,000 capacity (and it must have the capacity to rise further ‘if’ the Tims try and outdo us again) and we’ll maybe be forced to change the ‘official’ name of Ibrox. It could change to ‘The Walt Disney Stadium’ for all I care, as it’d still be called Ibrox by me!!! Being a cynic as far as he’s concerned I must say this ‘statement’ suggests we’re not gonna be spending on players for the immediate future and this is just ‘mirrors’ to fool us into believing something’s on the cards that isn’t! It’s long been put forward that Murray (given the opportunity) will sell Ibrox from under us – must say I’ve a sneaky feeling this’ll be at the end of this ‘BIG NEWS’!!!! Another unethical thing about this is the ‘Buy a Brick’ business that’s been running for some time around the Stadium – I’ll bet most thought that the bricks would be there for as long as the Club is in business (forever). The brickwork was probably an expensive part of our stadium, so will the ‘NEW’ stadium have the same amount of ‘facing bricks’? Will the bricks be transferred, or will he try some kind of trade in? Take the Brick home with you? No extra charge! Will the GCC give Millions for the regeneration of the immediate area around the stadium? Knowing a bit about Politics I have to say NO BLOODY WAY!!!! There’s only one way the GCC will cough up lots of cash for the area around Ibrox, and that’s if we demolish our ground and leave Glasgow altogether! Question I’d ask though is ‘if’ this story is true (not a rat in hells chance tbh), and he figures he’ll come up with around £170 Million - how on earth can he not afford the money to put tarpaulin on the Ibrox pitch to prevent it from being waterlogged? No doubt if this story is just more smoke and mirrors he’ll make a statement saying the ‘NEW’ Ibrox will have the ability to repel water, or how about a ‘retractable roof’ like what they have in Amsterdam – It’s all Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds with that man, sadly there seems lots of Bears who have bought into this nonsense – only good thing I can see is it’s great for winding up the Tims, mention 70,000 attendances and Walter Smith in the same sentence and they go apoplectic! Del 667
I must admit i am a bit skeptical about these "big news announcements" as there has been plenty in the past and no doubt plenty more in the future. The only slight reason i have for believing them is that we will be given money towards all the work from the council and from the Commonwealth games fund. IMO we would definately get money from the council as they give builders a lot of money for restoration work done to houses and surrounding area and we would get money from the Commonwealth Fund if we move in the next year or two. I would like it to happen as it would promote our club even further and put the unwashed giro dome firmly in the shade!
Frankie 505
IF (and it remains a huge, huge IF) we do build a new stadium, any supporter's facing bricks would be built into the new structure free of charge.
Poetry_In_Blue 1,043
Following the initial news reports Rangers did come out with a statement indicating that they were looking at three different proposals to re-develop Ibrox and increase the size of the stadium. The press have obviously jumped onto the most ambitious £700 million re-development of Ibrox and the surrounding area. Of course we would all like this proposal to go ahead, as not only will it improve the ground, it will bring an awful lot of jobs to a slightly more deprived area, and it could help increase the community spirit which the formation of Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox help install. Either way, we should not dismiss this out of hand, but be patient, as it would take real investment from developers to achieve this irrespective of which proposal is agreed to (if any). Also, if I remember correctly doesn't some of Murray's companies actually own a lot of the land round about Ibrox? As for the "bricks" situation, it has been made perfectly clear (and this I do believe), that the bricks will be installed in any new Ibrox. As for buying players, the two aren't linked, and if we need to buy players then players will be bought. For the immediate future I don't actually think we need any. Bluepeter9 5,167
The only problem with this post is there has been NO announcement from Ibrox about a £700M development. There was a story in the Sunday Mail - followed up by other papers to that effect - but all Rangers have said is they are looking at 3 different proposals. I think we need to wait until we see something 'offcial' before we can start commenting on it.
rfc_no1fan 13
How can we prevent the pitch getting flooded - The roof we would have over the stadium If the project goes ahead, as long as Rangers dont sell and lease back Ibrox im all for it. \The time for regeneration is now when Glasgow city council are dipping into their pockets
Bobby 41
remember SDM had arranged for the super casino to be built at ibrox if glasgow won the liscence. nothing he could do about the decision. SDM will deliver on this im sure (not that hes promised anything -yet.)

It's a story the club didn't want publicised just now. They felt compelled to put a wee bit on the official site to counter the Mail's hysteria, that's all. Dillinger 0
IMO, while an upgrade of Ibrox is welcome, most of these headlines are just a smokescreen to distract us from a lack of activity in the transfer window and recent flooding debacles. Emerson 2
The fact remains, this is one hell of a story and the fact that Murray has not denied it speaks volumes. If it was a load of lies or untruths it would be in his own and Rangers best interests to quickly dismiss the rumours and as I have said, we are awaiting a denial. Its fair to assume that Murray will have plenty of connections concerning the building work and will make out of it that way. For that reson alone I think it is a go-er. Judging by the comments made by the guys here, he has little or no trust left amongst the supporters as its stands anyway, so he has nothing to lose in that respect. blueben_d 40
we already know this has been being looked into for quite some time, I was also slightly sceptical that nothing would happen anytime soon when I heard the report, a wee new year bonus to keep the troops happy and distracted from the lack of spending on signings

Guest Andypendek
so smith was lying when he said he'd tried to get a couple of players in but was rebuffed? cause if he's telling the truth, it seems not only is murray looking to the long term future of the infrastructure he's also backing the manager in trying to strengthen the team. i don't know anything about the ins and outs about this. but i've read quite clearly that the money for this project is entirely seperate from any funds for players, and if the whole thing was to disappear overnight there still wouldn't be any extra for players. Why does he have to be lying? Just because he says he'll get a couple of players doesn't mean anything of significance - those players could be from Stenhousemuir or Cove Rangers for all we know, so the money outlay could be next to NOTHING!!! Does that equate to "backing the manager"??
