Walter HAS NOT blown 30 million

Since he came back to the club Walter has spend a chunk of this "blown" 30 million on signing: Cuellar, Cousin, Miller, Bougherra, Thomson, Mendes & Davis.

The afore mentioned players cost upwards of 16 million and have become/been vital players to us in the past couple of years

I'm not saying he hasn't wasted money, because he has.

But if we are going to slate him, let's at least get the facts right first (tu)

I tend to agree but Davis was bought far too late. The £3M would have been better spent when we were crying out for a midfielder and when we were still in Europe.

Cuellar, Bougherra, Thomson and Mendes were good buys though.

The facts remain that he has spent £30 million + and still hasnt got a team good enough to beat Kaunas, St Mirren or Hearts ffs who between them probably dont even add up to £10 million He hasnt got a clue and if he is still losing to shite then im sorry, he HAS blown £30 million. Pissed it up a wall (tu)

He has wasted millions, for the simple reason that we haven't won the title, we lost to Kaunus and are 7 points behind this season.

On top of that the quality of our play is very poor.

Although those players are/were vital players they are only part of a team, which isn't good enough.

Obviously some of the 30 million (if we're going to use that figure) wasn't wasted, but the point is that the money has been spent and as a whole we're not much better off in comparison to other teams. It leads some people to think that spending half of that money (or none of it) wouldn't have made much of a difference to the standard of team we have. In that sense the money has been wasted.

Also, we recovered around half of the money Walter has spent on the transfers of Hutton, Cuellar and Cousin.

So overall, his net spend is in the region of £12-13 million.

To be honest, the only time you hear people say that Walter has "wasted £30 million" is when they are trying to explain why Walter's second tenure has been completely unsuccessful thus far. We all twist facts to back-up our oppinions, it's just part of the fun. :)

This is true with Cuellar and Cousin because Smith brought them to the club and sold them for a profit, but you can't credit him for things like the sale of Hutton. He happened to be the manager when Hutton was sold, but he didn't create that money, he simply agreed to sell an asset that we already had.

Alex McLeish's net spend was something like -£13million IIRC.

Smith has had around £30million to build a team and we're still struggling against teams who are building teams with less than we spend on one player.

Completely unsucessful so far - except for 2 cups and a UEFA cup final appearence in the only season he could win anything and this season is NOT dead yet -At last look we still had a treble to go for and its a long season for those panicking about the league.

I wasn't saying that his reign has been unsuccessful i was stating that people use that stat when THEY are arguing that it has been unsuccessful.

it could be argued that he lost 10million from the champions league and an embarrasing defeat to hearts reserve

It could also be argued that he earned £25 million from the European run.

most of it blown on bonuses

Every person associated with signings waste money. It is just a reality.

He hasn't necessarily blown the money on signings. His baffling selections and tactics are what are killing us more than anything. Can't slate Velicka, as he hasn't got a sniff. Lafferty - played out of position and being crucified for not doing well, so I'm willing to cut him a good deal of slack. Long ball tactics, ridiculous substitutions, lack of motivation, fear of the new (i.e. youth) ... what have you. He's bought some quality players, he just doesn't seem to have a clue what to do with them most of the time. And as for those few buys that are transparently not working, they remain in the line-up or on the bench. Go figure.
