But to be honest it was a second yellow. Sands is a good Motherwell or St Johnstone player but Rangers your having a laugh. Any manager who puts a squad player in a key position 3 losing games in a row should be fired along with the fuckwit who signed Sands. Gio needs to go back to China and take Ross Wilson with him. This season is a busted flush.

We certainly do not have the players to play zonal marking; awareness, concentration, height and the ability and willingness to attack crosses is a must and we lack height and aggression.
The way to defend corners with shorter players is to man mark touch tight to prevent opponents jumping or getting the first run, which happens with zonal. However, I do not expect things to change since lessons are not learned.
As a side note it was interesting how uncomfortable Ajax were against the high press of Liverpool.

I cant be fucked with zonal marking, I dont think ive seen many teams pull it off successfully. Our players certainly dont look comfortable at all with it. I see no benefit in continuing with it, its just inviting trouble.

    Many reasons for our dire performances this season;
Weaker in goalkeeping, and central defence, midfield and upfront losing Leon B,Calvin B, Joe Aribo and missing Alfredo. The replacements are far below their standards. McLaughlin has slow reactions, poor decision making and positioning and does not seem to boss his defenders. We have lost height, strength and players willing and able to attack high balls when defending. We have lost the ability to hold the ball and create which Aribo did so well.Colak will score in the box but does little else.
However with this in mind why do we no longer play the high press?
Why zonal marking when we have lost the height and strength of Joe, Leon and Calvin? With smaller players we need them touch tight to effectively defend corners.
Why is our play so painfully slow and why does the first instinct a pass back no matter in which area of the pitch?
Are the players plied with sleeping pills before the start which makes them dose off at all opposition throws and set pieces because even after Saturday it was happening on Wednesday.
Recruitment is a large part of the problem but coaching decisions, tactics and lack of fitness and sharpness seems more so.

Not many teams we've played leave space in behind  for him to take advantage of, because time we've pissed about passing the ball backwards and sideways the opposition have got back into their shape.
If the idea of passing out from the back and passing side to side in our own half is to drag the opposition out of position it doesn't work. It's turgid, one dimensional boring tactics.
We need a decent high press and just pressing the opposition in general when we lose the ball. If we don't have the players to do that, or don't have the stamina to do that, then it's a sad reflection on the signings we've made or indeed the players we've kept whos best days are behind them unfortunately.

Got home last night and still raging at Kent, I  haven't been reading all the comments about him so don't know if this has been mentioned, when the players were on the park before kick he was walking about on his fuckin phone, couldn't believe what I was watching so decided to pay particular attention to him when the game started and to be honest I've never witnessed a player so disinterested in a game of football in my life. I lost count of the number of times Borna was at him off the ball to give him some sort of help, Kent wasn't tracking his man, was caught in no man's land, in my opinion on purpose, numerous time and basically wasn't giving a fuck, disgraceful performance.

I think Saturday and tonight has shown that Tillman is nowhere ready to play against decent opposition who will not give him the time he needs to control and play the ball.

Our new signings are not good enough. (Davies can’t be judged yet). We are worse than last season with Bassey, Aribo and even Balogun leaving.

it's pretty evident we cannot cope with 3 in the middle, the middle three leave gaps all over the shop when they lose the ball in the final third, we cannot defend for shit, we have a midfielder in the as a central defender ffs, corner kicks is a penalty kick to teams now, kent and tilman need their arses dropped, i lost count on how many times they got up top only to be greedy bastards and lose the ball leaving the midfield clueless and not to mention the lazy bastards jogging back.
i don't know how we can fix it or if we even can

Watching the other group game tonight and while those teams and players are way better than us, the thing that strikes me is how few backwards passes there are. Almost ever phase of possession is aggressive and trying to get a player on the end of a ball or a player who turns and runs with the ball. It's the opposite of our philosophy under Van Bronkhurst.

The least surprising statistic of the entire evening, we look like we have chucked it, we look like an advert for walking football for pensioners.

Regarding the second; good keepers make themselves big instead of flopping to his knees. The Boyle goal showed his weakness there as well. His reactions are slow and decision making suspect and he will keep losing us points but I doubt Gio will drop him.

This is obvious. Always has been.
McGregor's frequency of mistakes has been exaggerated by folk that also seem to have blinded themselves to McLaughlin's inadequacy in their rush to get rid of Shagger.
