I think my use of "play off" is what is confusing it.

I'm not talking about the playoff before the groups, I'm taking about the playoff after the group stage, between the team finishing 2nd playing the team coming 3rd in the higher tournament.

I think we can agree that it is confusing as fuck.

Yea I think we all know that.

It was the claim that 3rd place in Europa Group doesn't give you a shot at the conference knock out was the one that had us confused.

I have read the qualification criteria about 4 times , and every time I read it I am more confused . I think they make it up as they go along .I think it is set up so the scum can get knocked out of 3 euro competitions before xmas .

    You sure?

    "Group stage and knockout phase

The format sees eight groups of four teams, followed by the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. An additional preliminary knockout round is played before the round of 16 between teams ranked second in their groups and the third-ranked teams of the UEFA Europa League groups. The new competition features 141 matches over 15 match weeks.[2] 56 teams take part."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Europa_Conference_League#:~:text=No teams qualify directly to,qualify for the Champions League.

Says here the 2nd placed in the conference group plays the 3rd in Europa.

Would seem to hold up the conference for too long if the gap between the group stage and the next round has to wait for both a playoff between the CL and Europa teams, then a playoff between the loser of this and the 2nd place in the conference.

You are right .the 10 teams who drop down are from the EUL qualifying playoff, not the 1st round of knock out matches . Conference league qualifying is a clusterfuck of back doors.

I don't think the club should be aiming for anything other than winning every game they play. I'm not suggesting we actively try not to qualify, I just think that getting knocked out in the final qualifying round could be a bonus in disguise.

Actually think it would be a mighty big ask to win the Uefa conference for us or Brugge. As with all the comps, when you get to the business end, there tends to be some right good teams in the mix.

There is some big hitters already in the Conference and thats before the 10 drop down from the EUL .Villa, juventus , Frankfurt and Lille .There is a lot of  shite there too .I agree that not making the CL isn't the end of the world , but after last years disaster , it would be nice to give a better showing of ourselves.

  5. Just checked, the only way we can get into the conference league , is by coming 3rd in the CL ,or qualifying from the group stage of the EUL , then getting beat in the play off round . 3rd in EUL doesn't drop down .

Could do, but the chances are much higher we make it via the Europa.

The odds are that we get very few points in the CL. We could draw a real group of death with someone like Newcastle in pot 4 and end up in 4th place with no or almost no points.

Europa we would likely at least finish in 3rd if not the top 2 places, getting a good few points along the way. I think 3rd then drops down to conference, where even more points could be possible.

I agree it is unlikely that would finish last in a EUL group ,and I would really like european football after xmas , even if it was in the conference league . I think it is still a  risk aiming for the EUL at the expense of the CL .Brugge are good enough to win the Conference league (so should we), so a mixed bag of results from the 3 competitions might still not be enough to stop Brugge overtaking us .

Its still nice being able to talk about possible CWC qualification .Its a good position to be in .

  7. Looking at last years payout system for CL . £13.8 m to qualify , and a coefficient share of £1m per share .Rangers are ranked 29th , so would get 3 shares (£3m) , but 9 of the teams above us have not automatically qualified .This takes us to 12 shares (12m). There is a couple in the qualifying rounds above us, like Ajax which would drop our share if they qualify .Add on our tv share and any points we get , we should be looking at (hopefully) at least 30m , just from qualifying and getting a couple of results .Ideally , followed by 3rd place and drop into the EUL . We could drop straight into the EUL (from CL qualifying) and don't get by the group stage and still fail to get to the CWC.  .

  8. More hope than confidence .A massive change in the team was long overdue , and now that is happening I am hoping the replacements make a difference .After the first half of last season , even hope went out the window . Since he took over , I have at least got hope back .Confidence will come with a run of good results .

I think he mostly looks good but obviously a lot of development left and we haven't seen nearly enough games from him yet to properly judge.

The thing is Borna gets slaughtered on here (rightly so) for regularly letting his man run off him in the exact same way that Yilmaz done there.

Yilmaz never let him run off him (was never marking him in the first place)  . Yilmaz was standing in an acre of space out left waiting for a ball to be played to him . We fucked about in the middle then lost it .His wee legs were going like the clappers to try and get back .He is guilty of expecting a pass and not having longer legs .

Most bands will play venues with capacities between 1200 and 2000 people if they’re below arena level and touring quite regularly.

1300 is a decent crowd at a gig. Doesn’t sound much in football terms but gigging terms it looks good and it’s a decent crowd. End of the day all people going to gigs care about is sound, accessibility and is there a bar. No cunt Google’s who owns the venue

Its two Rangers supporting acts opening it so they probably thought it was quite fitting in that sense. They probably could have asked Amy MacDonald aswell tbf

O2 Academy is 2500 and the Barras is only 1900 . King Tuts is only 300 . 1300 is a decent size for a gig .
