He was given a contract which was extended not because of who he was but because we were progressing.  He achieved the ultimate aim against the odds (our main opponents were settled, established, had more valuable assets, paid more in salaries, paid more in transfers) within the contractual time frame.  Gerrard made continuous progress in developing the team and getting results in the 2 key competitions.
GVB isn't doing that currently. That's the main issue, there's not progress, yet, and depending on how results go this week then on top of likely losing the league there'll be considerable regression.
Different circumstances of what both took on, and for me GVB gets the rebuild. But we need confidence from results the remainder of this season and to hit the ground running next season or there's simply no excusing it and he'll deserve to go. There simply has to be a consistent progress.
