Yup.  It worries me so many fans demanding a complete gutting of the squad over the summer and yet still expecting Clement to have a consistent, winning team from the off next season or his job may be on the line.  These two things are highly unlikely to be compatible.

I think there will be a good number of players leaving this summer but I hope, for Clement’s sake, that he doesn’t go overboard on this.  He will need some continuity in the team to see us through the first few months of next season until new players bed in.

It's up to Phil to change tactics and enthuse the players.
If we score first anything can happen.
Take risks, press them and stress them out. Their defence can't handle it.
They collapse in Europe almost every time because opposition teams do it!
 

Aye, that's the shit thing about our league: if we don't win it then our direct rivals do and just to compound that gut punch they pick up all that CL money and it's so much more than EL money. It's not like Spain where even if Madrid win the league Barca still get CL money.
Hopefully the players are feeling the need to go out on a high. I think it's the fact that we haven't beaten Them all season doesn't have me feeling too optimistic, no matter how much I try to gee myself up.

Think we are all still on a downer after losing the league. It's only natural.
The league is our number one priority for several reasons. It adds to our title tally, gives us bragging rights and gets us into the CL and the money we would make from it to invest in the squad.
We can't change that now though.
Given that Phil became manager to an injury ravaged team (no change there) with zero direction midway through the season, I think a cup brace would be an acceptable outcome under the circumstances.
It's easy to get upset with our players. Been there myself many times!Saturday is all about winning silverware though.
Win the match no matter what, then move onto the rebuild.
Surely the players who are leaving want to go out on a high?
If they don't then it is a reflection on them. There is only so much we can do as a support.
 
 
 

I'm hoping everyone, the fans and the team, pick themselves up for this. I've been in the doldrums with the football since the OF game but, thinking about this game, if we manage to get a cup double I think it'll have been a successful season.
The ending to league was a major punch in the stomach but there's no point dwelling on it. I think it was the manner in which we fell at the end that stings. If we'd never gained ground on the tarriers after Clement came in then the feeling would be pretty different right now and we'd be looking at this final as an opportunity to wind up a pretty successful campaign.
That's the way I'm trying to look at it anyway.

A quality CB, CM, Winger and CF would make a huge difference to this side. With that a lot of the guys who need ‘to go’ will look a lot better. No idea which ones but there will be guys who offer more with better quality around them.

We find ourselves in the same position as they were in 2000 when O'Neil walked through the doors at that midden . We had dominated for over a decade but they had stopped 10 in a row then spent a few years not really knowing what to do with themselves afterwards and numerous failed management projects.
The transformation can be done but it's going to require quite a bit of money and a big mentality shift right throughout the club 

It’s hard to retain perspective right but with a shite squad and a dire start to the season we still came close, won one cup (possibly two) and had an ok euro run - some additions over summer, PC doing his own pre-season with the squad and I think it’ll be fine.  Still fucking grim this week mind…

What!?  C'mon, before Gerrard was Pedro & then an extended period under Graeme Murty, and we finished 3rd in the league behind Aberdeen and were only 3 points above Hibs in 4th.

People have short memories, prior to Gerrard we were miles behind them. Miles. 

That's clearly not the case any more, we only just came up short and ran out of form at a crucial time but it was a close contest in the league and we have every chance to finish up with the 2 domestic trophies. I dare say we've had worse seasons under Walter.
