So once again it looks like a thigh strain could keep Mendes out. What is it with our players, and recurring injuries?

It also means we'll see both Thomson, and McCulloch in the middle of the park :anguish:

You know McCulloch was going to play anyway,

Smith fancies him in that role breaking up play and gettin stuck in... hopefully the rest of our midfield are up to the task

I expect Miller to get the nod also.

So we'll play with two players who's job is to get stuck in, break up play, and keep it simple in the middle of the park. Two players who are incredibly slow, one being Kevin Thomson who is not fit, and playing very poorly. Absolutely no creativity from the both of them either, and they'll sit 40 yards off the front man/men....

It's Unirea at Ibrox we are playing, not someone like Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona....who have an abundance of quality.

But we always make it hard for ourselves. No need for both to be playing, no need for Lee McCulloch to be getting a game for Rangers.

Should Boyd start?

I managed to find a clip of one of the goals they conceded at home to Vaslui (not working now though :() and they look just awful at the back.

Usually, it's the kinda thing Boyd would thrive on.

Is Mendes out?

by Lindsay Herron

RANGERS could be missing the vast experience and ability of Pedro Mendes as they go for victory against Unirea Urziceni in the Champions League tomorrow night.

Mendes suffered a thigh strain while playing for Portugal in World Cup qualifiers last week which prevented him from facing St Johnstone yesterday,

The midfield star, who won the Champions League with Porto, showed no great improvement yesterday and unless there is a change in fortune today or tomorrow morning it is unlikely he will feature.

Boss Walter Smith said today: "We have a doubt over Pedro and he is our main problem at the moment.

"He will have an opportunity to test it out today and hopefully he will come through that but at this moment he is doubtful."

Mendes is clearly a key player for Rangers but Smith insisted that he will only pick the Portuguese star if he fully recovers.

He said: "It is not the type of injury you can take a chance with. If there is a problem he will miss out."

Rangers have no other injury concerns and, as reported earlier, Madjid Bougherra is back in the squad after his problems last week.

Pretty much expect Mendes to miss out. Like Walter Smith say's, it's an injury that you can't take a gamble on, and it's one that has troubled Mendes for sometime now.

It's a blow, even although he's not playing that well, he's a better option than both McCulloch, and Thomson. I see a major lack of creativity in the team once again.
