TravelingWilBEARy 4,319
In my lifetime it would have to be Mark Hateley. He was virtually unplayable between 92 and 94.

Tumshie 205
Hateley, DJ, Bob McPhail, Jimmy Smith, and probably another 10 or 15 strikers are in front of Kris Boyd.
1st_Jan_1994 4,868
I didn't like Boyd but mentioned his name purely on his goal scoring - poor player tho
Turnberry18 3,204
Ralph Brand was a goal machine in his day. Boyd was a better striker than Ally in my opinion. Amato was the most skilful of any strikers we have had although not particularly prolific.Would liked to have seen Brand; and Amato was special. ZeGowse 13
In my lifetime it would have to be Boyd purely based on the amount of goals he scored. In terms of quality of the player I would say Hateley, Mols, Wallace, Prso or Jelavic would all be up there.
Jack The Flipper 5,936
Mols without a doubt, Hately was amazing at feeding McCoist, but I'd have to say Mols. I'd actually say Mols was better than McCoist, before his injury he was untouchable - a true footballing genius. Negri was great as well. TravelingWilBEARy 4,319
Try 91-95Was he not injured for a lot of the 94/95 season? Anyway, yes he really hit his stride with McCoist 91/92 season.
StewGer 606
My mates Dad swears DJ was better than McCoist, his argument being that DJ didn't take penalties. In my time watching Rangers it's easily big Hateley.

Turnberry18 3,204
If Boyd had had pace, the pace to have a yard on the last defender from outside the box, he would have been special.

McPhail, Smith and DJ definitely and Hateley was a million times better than Boyd. I'd take Mols, Jelavic and big Dado over Boyd as well. Ozblue 4,331
Just a wee bit before my time but my Grandfather said that Jimmy Fleming was the bees knees and when you check his record you might have to agree with him. 223 goals in 268 games - Most Scottish Cup goals scored by a Rangers player (44) he also holds the record for most goals in a single match (9 goals) against Blairgowrie in the Scottish Cup.As an aside, he played for Scotland 4 times, scoring 3 goals...pretty impressive. We can't really say who our second greatest (or greatest) striker was because different era/different rules regarding offside etc/ different team formations make it impossible to compare strikers, even when statistics might tell a different story. In my lifetime with players I have actually seen on the pitch, I would have to give notable mention to (in no particular preference) to Willie Thornton, Billy Simpson, Ralph Brand, Max Murray, Jim Forrest, Mr McCoist MBE, Marco Negri, Jimmy Millar. All was more mobile, had a better touch, was technically sound (unlike Boyd) and did it consistently in big games far more than Boyd. Ally was much better. It's not even a close call IMO! Ally was more influential on the pitch and in the dressing room as well.
Inigo 32,579
Hateley or Mols from my time. Superb playersBoyd scored goals but was a piss poor footballer.Spot on.

Buggleskelly 3,772
When I was younger it had to be big DJ. Brilliant player for Rangers , he really was. In modern times i'd go for Ronald De Boer. What a talent.
