They are taking a chance alright. Is it actually the SFA who are responsible for the pitch though? Queens Park own it sure. I think they should invest in a Hybrid pitch over the close season or QP move to lesser hampden.

ThatNightInFlorence 696
The SFA need to admit Hampden is not fit for purpose and look at building a new stadium, one that isn't used by Queens Park every other week too! Surely we (Scottish football) could rent Murrayfield for a couple of seasons for the big international games and cup semi finals and finals? SFA are contracted to play the Scottish games at Hampden until 2020 i think. I'm not sure if that includes cup games etc or just National Team

I am sure that the SFA were offered land at Strathclyde Park for a new stadium, in the eighties, but refused because Hampdump is the traditional heart of Scottish football the spent millions on two refurbishments which left it still a horrible spectator unfriendly dump. Hampden will still be used but nowhere near as frequently as before, with just the odd international and Old Firm Semis and Finals being played there. Murrayfield would be perfect for big Scotland games but a logistical and policing nightmare for an Old Firm game.

There's also a restriction on the number of events it can hold in a year as per the planning permission it got.
Gaz52 11,837
Fully expecting the ball to get stuck on the surface making it impossible to have a fluid passing game. It'll suit a long diagonal to Kazim-Richards.. We must have a big bruiser from the youth we could bring in to play long balls to? Fuck. We need Daly and Kyle back I kid. Vanoli 4,654
Fucking idiots. Just plunge face first from one shambles to the next. Its just staggering that there's to be 2 massive fixtures, for 4 of the countries most supported clubs, in the countries biggest cup competition, it's live on Sky Sports .... and what do they do .... fuck sake

Turnberry18 3,204
Why relay a pitch in between a final and two semi finals? Surely if it was going to be relaid at all it would have happened sooner. Did they only just spot how bad the surface was? Odd.

scottyscott1963 19,167
What the fuck do they care as long as the £200,000 that was paid 5 weeks ago,and whatever this is costing is not coming out of their pockets. tannerall 25,935
WTF ? How is the grass and turf going to knit and settle in to the ground in less than a week. Every gardener that has ever laid turf knows it is a longish process. You really could not make this shit up. Advice from the first plant site I looked at: Although a good quality lawn should be able to accommodate pedestrian usage within two days, if at all possible, avoid doing so for 2 weeks – giving the lawn time to settle and become properly rooted. RHS advice Laying turf to make a lawn is problem free as long as turf is kept watered until it has rooted into the underlying soil. The ground staff at even the most basic football playing fields know this. The Hampden ground staff, are not clowns, they know exactly what they are doing to the pitch at Hampden and the consequences to a team who prefer playing on a decent surface.
