However everything about it suggests desperation and underlying issues. I think this season will hold so much pressure for IRAceltic and Brendan as there are so many reasons why he simply must be successful. He has already mentioned the European priority so if that doesn't go well in the qualifiers straight away the pressure multiplies. There is clearly issues with their balance sheet, the need to fill the stadium, the desire to trim the squad and get value from players, the only one year rolling contract etc etc. The pressure on him to keep the successive league title run going is the biggest one. We are not expected to win the title first time around and Mark will not share the same pressure to do so but if we do then their big money gamble on high earning Brendan will have dramatically backfired and internal chaos will ensue. Rodgers is their big money signing, the box office appointment, the big 'all in' in card playing terms. The problem with these moves are you don't know what hand the others at the table have?
