Rangers 2 - 2 Villreal 21/2/06.

 Villareal 1 - 1 Rangers. 7/3/06

Don't be mistaken, we were beaten by a great team. Stars like Riquelmi and Forlan, but we certainly weren't outclassed and gave them a bloody nose! Denied a penalty in the last few minutes at Ibrox to potentially give us a 3-2 home win. That could have been a very different outcome in the away leg. As it was, we drew away at a very difficult and intimidating ground. A win would have been the first time a Rangers team had won away in Spain since the '72 Cup Winners Cup side. We even had the audacity to take the lead, and every bear watching that night started to believe something magical could happen. It just wasn't to be though and the Spaniards equalised shortly after the break, and held out to win on away goals!

We were at that point the first Scottish team to make the last 16 of the C/L.

He's not put a foot wrong, so you're talking pish I'm afraid.

Fair play that was a great result against opposition with a rich European heritage. Credit where its due.. Well done Villareal.

Middleton is very raw. No need to slag Candeias in the way you have.

Looks like the toughest game to start off with. Just getting here is great, it would require a defensive display a step up from Maribor, so it really depends what Villareal teams turns up. But I note they are 2nd bottom in La Liga with 1 point from 9 (P3W0D1L2F1A3), so perhaps we are getting them at a good time?
