If he scores another 750 goals in the remainder of his career I may even agree .

You might want to google Pele and his 1279 goals in 1363 games before you start announcing who was the greatest finisher in historyĀ

Gerd Muller's 398 goals in 453 games for Bayern and 68 goals in 62 games for West Germany might put him in with a shout for greatest finisher ever as well.

Pele played against smokers, alcoholics and farmers ffs.

Ā

Ronaldo is playing against the best athletes to ever be involved in the sport.

Ā

BTW nearly halfĀ of Pele's goals were those scored inĀ friendlies.

Do not forget the drugs as well mate...make Lance Armstrong look clean

Apparently Didier Deschamps'Ā recorded haematocrit value fluctuated by 20%. Either he was off his tits on EPOĀ or he had a severe blood disease and, since it wasn't treated, is in fact now dead.

Haven't heard any reports about the latter...

Most overrated player in history? What?

Are we talking about the same guy here? The guy who scored a brace in a world cup final at the age of 17? The guy who scored again in the 1970 final and assisted 2?Ā

You need to watch more footage of the man if you think he is the most overrated player in history, sorry. Not having that. The guy is a great.Ā

Think of Pele you think of 3 things. All misses.

Ā The dummy round the goalkeeper misses Ā an open goal.

shot from the half way line he fails to score.

Ā Then the Gordon banks save.

never did it in Europe either. Not saying he's shite ha but not that good

Why would he have to "do it in Europe" to prove himself? He played his league games against players like Djalma Santos, Zagallo, Didi, Garrincha, Carlos Alberto, Rivelino, Gerson and Tostao and played his international games against the best Europe had to offer. Brazil won 3 out of 4 World Cups during his international career, he proved himself against European competition and against the other continents too.

Beats Beckenbauer's Germany and Rivera's Italy back to back in a World Cup semi-final and final but hadn't proved himselfĀ :mutley:

Pele most overrated playerĀ :duh:Ā fsĀ

Then when one person says about scoring in friendlies others mention it as if they knew beforehand:lol:

Ronaldo plays In today's game with all the science. Best of food. Plays on a carpet with light boots and a fly away football.

Pele played when you eat what you want. Pitches where a joke. Big heavy leather boots and a big heavy ball

Ā To compare the two is stupid but to say Pele is overrated is moronicĀ

Not that stupid.

The point was about the best finisher.

Anyone who scores that amount of goals in any context must be considered a good finisher

As for the crack about almost half his goals being in friendlies I suppose that only leaves him 100 - 150 goals ahead.

Also as pointed out above this was in the era when defenders simply crocked the best players to stop them not in the era where defenders are barely allowed to tackle

The offside rules in Pele's days also made it harder to score. Even the flyaway footballs they use now help strikers score goals.Ā

Finally the physical abuse faced by Pele compared to Ronaldo (who let's face it is a big tart) and Messi is night and day.

This part I do think is overstated, evading some lunging tackle is quite a lot simpler, if you are a genius, than dealing with constant pressing and the close attentions of four or five or six opposition players. Messi gets kicked plenty, but more than that, what he almost never gets is the kind of space Pele got when he set up the winner in the 1970 world cup final.Ā
