we had one chance at Europa league qualification but we have plenty of chances against them. its the 2nd of September.

I take your point. This is not a surprise to me. He is a novice in management at this level. Will he improve? I wouldn't want to bet against that. The reason he is getting an easier ride is because the majority of our support can see a genuine path to improvement.

It is a work in progress and the improvement we have seen has given us all renewed optimism going forward but we do need extra bodies in to improve the first eleven. That's why we have to forget about the old firm and focus solely on qualification to the Europa League. This will imo opinion enable us to strengthen the team further.
We crave a winning team and we are getting there slowly but surely. Gerrard will make mistakes like all managers do but I genuinely feel he will lead us to where we belong with a few bumps along the way as he stated.

The reason 352 worked first half was that we played through middle of park on the deck and this allowed Barisic and Tag to stay high. 2nd half Motherwell matched up 3 forwards to our back 3 and went direct and played off the scraps. They didn't allow us as much scope to play thru middle and rather than find a solution, we went long, making Tav and Barisic redundant as game passed them both by. 
Switching to 4 at back was correct call, but it had to be at expense of Lafferty or Morelos (both of whom got less free kicks given to them 2nd half). The very deep 442 allowed them to get on top of us and it needed a higher line and 451 to see it out. 
And this will be our problem - finding a solution that allows Lafferty and Morelos to play together. I like Tav and Barisic further up the park if we can make 3 at back work, but we'll be making all the wingers redundant. And if it's to be 3, we need to dominate the midfield or we'll see teams throw 3 up top and keep turning us. 
What SG does next to fix all of that'll be interesting.
For what it worth, I thought we looked leggy 2nd half.
