I have said literally not one word either way about whether Pele would have been a great player if he was born into this generation, much less have I said it is "likely" he would be, I just said there is no basis for your claim that it's likely he wouldn't be. Basing it on an estimation of the kind of defending he faced is meaningless, unless we are making a judgement that Pele was incapable of tactical adaptation. He was, by the standards of all humans interested in getting good at football in his time, uncommonly strong, uncommonly fast and uncommonly skilful. Evolution does not happen over 60 years, so unless the humans playing football today have been parachuted in from another planet, if THEY had been playing in the 50s and 60s, they would be likewise unimpressive by today's standards and you'd be claiming it's "likely" that they wouldn't make it in today's game, which is daft.
It is absolutely impossible to know, which is why your claim on one side of the argument is odd, which is why I questioned it. Not to somehow suggest Pele WOULD be great today.

I don't get this at all. Obviously Pele then would be useless if parachuted into the modern game, but why are you assuming that a player who was among the strongest, fastest and fittest in his day would not have the attributes to be a good fit today if he was born in this time? His athleticism was highly regarded, relative to the time he played. Unless we're just assuming that ALL footballers then happened to be different types of humans to the humans who become footballers now, or unless you think humans have evolved significantly as a species since the 50s, it stands to reason that some players from the past would have been the greats of today if they were born today too.
