Maybe smith thinks wilson is enough cover after mcculoch ?

Would like to think that Wilson's good enough but what if we need him for a CL game, he's got no experience at SPL level, never mind Europe.

He'll need to get that experience somehow though!

Should have been given it in preseason games. Cant understand Walter on this unless he was sure he was signing a CB this window.

Signing Rothen may be a good thing but my only worry is our defensive cover.

That's him signed now.

Rangers have signed Jerome Rothen from PSG on a year's loan with a view to a permanent deal.

It is understood that PSG had yesterday contacted Rangers asking to consider signing Rothen on loan. PSG knew Rangers had previousley expressed an interest, after Walter Smith asked about Rothen’s availability during the Emirates Cup in London.

Rothen is a skillful left winger and a free kick specialist, who has played for the French national team 13 times, scoring three goals. PSG manager Toni Kombouare has allowed him to leave after Rothen publicly criticised the club’s management team. He was expected to join Schalke but due to the end of the German transfer window, no deal was completed. Blackburn Rovers were also keen on him, but pulled out due to the £2 million transfer fee.

True. Better now than in a couple years when he will be dropped into the first team (hopefully). Better to ease him in over the games with the romanians ;.

I agree to an extent, but the two games against the Romanians will determine where we finish in the CL, make no mistake. Also, anyone who takes that mob for a bunch of mugs who we should roll over want their head examined.

Aye, I'd maybe not risk them them.

Mind you, if the Unirea are utter pish in the first game, I'd do it without a minute's thought. Having CL experience on the CV adds a few zeros to value, should we ever decide to sell him.

I'm not all that worried about the CB position. We have a strong pairing in Bougherra and Weir and a number of willing and competent deputies (Wilson, Papac, McCulloch, Edu and Broadfoot). I really thought wingers were more of a priority.

Worst comes to worst, Weir crocked and Boogie suspended for the last game away to Seville where we need a point to get through.

Whittaker - Broadfoot/Lee/Edu/Wilson - Papac - S. Smith

Not the defence that I'd want to have to hold them out imo.

Jerome Rothen is exactly the type of player we have been missing since Neil McCann. Hopefully he can produce the goods.

His age is not a problem. Look at davie Weir who is 39 and strolls through most games in the SPL.

I think he will be a very important player for us in the CL.

Am I right in thinking Aarons Valencia debut was in the champions league? as was our own McSwegan some time back
