Ā

Was he only charged by the FA cos that is where he is playing now?

So if he was still with us it wouldn't have mattered unless the SFA were involved?

The punishment seems extreme. About time the FAs have a ban on bookie sponsorships rather than chasing the money.

Guy's a dick, we have known that for years.

Saying that, an 18 month punishment for betting seems very harsh (unless proven that he was betting on matches his teams were involved in)

Think he's been made an example of tbh, should deter footballers away from bettingĀ

He was charged by the FA over separately placed bets, over a number of years, that preceded his signing for us.Ā

If he was still with us he'd still be facing this ban, as it's rare for FAs to refuse to enforce suspensions placed by another.Ā

The FA statement read: "Joey Barton has been suspended from football and all football activity for 18 months with immediate effect after he admitted an FA misconduct charge in relation to betting.
"It was alleged that between 26 March 2006 and 13 May 2016, he placed 1,260 bets on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, football matches or competitions in breach of FA Rule E8.
"Following the Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, the Burnley midfielder was also fined Ā£30,000 and warned as to his future conduct.
"Written Reasons will follow in due course."

I sometimes wonder how well he would have done if there was a different manager in.Ā

I don't know if we will ever find out what really happened but from what I've read Barton seemed to criticise Warburton over training methods and Warburton didn't like that. If only the whole team had criticised him! LolĀ
