Rather than paying for VAR which would cost millions to implement (not to mention paying for 3 Muppets to sit in a room at every game) would be a better return for those millions (let's argue it would cost £2M) not be to go full time with referees? At say £40k a year for a pro ref in the SPFL that would allow 6 refs to be paid for 8 and a bit years. The money saved from the match fees they currently get could be out into the pot and lengthen that time frame. Wouldn't be looking at keeping the current crops of refs in the long term. 1st couple of years while guys got brought through to replace them. I'm on about all SPFL clubs less one should be crying out for the refs to go Pro. I'd imagine many of them are in careers earning more than that, with refs wages heavily supplementing it again. It's way more than that down south.
