SPFL respond to Nicola Sturgeon’s bombshell statement and seek quick-fire talks

Scottish football's governing league body will look to discuss when games can be played with the Scottish Government. SPFL powerbrokers will seek urgent talks with Holyrood leaders after Nicola Sturgeon appeared to put the kibosh on football starting up again behind closed doors. The First Minister delivered an ominous message in her latest daily briefing as the coronavirus continues to ravage the world. Record Sport exclusively revealed late on Sunday night that discussions have taken place on getting the game back on – even if it’s without fans.

It’s understood celtic will work with a team of experts this week in a bid to figure out a raft of emergency contingency plans in the event celtic Park – along with grounds around the country – has to remain closed to fans even after the lockdown has been relaxed. But Sturgeon all but dismissed that idea as she fears supporters will still congregate to watch a game together whether it’s inside the stadium or not. And when asked by Record Sport what their next move might be, the SPFL revealed they want to begin talks with the Scottish Government as they face the prospect of having no football for another six months

A spokesman said: “SPFL teams are at the hearts of the communities that surround and sustain them. “Fans, players and officials alike are all keen to resume matches as soon as it’s appropriate and safe to do so. “Clearly, there are far more pressing issues for our communities and our health services at the moment, but we look forward to positive and early discussions with the Scottish Government on planning for bringing our game back.” Earlier in the day, Sturgeon had said: “I’m not yet in a position to give dates when things will start again and what order things will start to go back to normal.

“People should not be under the expectation that large-scale, mass gatherings will be starting anytime soon because we must make sure we are doing everything we can to continue to suppress this virus.“Some form of social distancing is going to be required up to the point that a vaccine is available. “That’s be being as frank and honest as possible, we want to get a semblance of normality back into people’s lives for all sorts of reasons as quickly as possible but we cannot do that in a way that risks a resurgence of this virus.

“I know that is not good news for the majority of our population that have sport as a really important part of their lives but it would be wrong to give a false expectation right now about an early resumption of football matches, rugby matches or large-scale sporting events like that. “In terms of playing behind closed doors, clearly there are issues there, in terms of does that clearly take away the risks? “If a match is being played behind closed doors but is still on television, the danger is people will still congregate together in groups to watch that. “These things have to be carefully considered and we will share as much of that consideration with you as we can.”

Why do celtic have yo.be the lead in this? Surely it is the sfa and spfl? Not those fuckers

They aren't. What they are doing is making it look like they are. They're very happy they've just been handed number 9.

I think it is trying to make them look clever, they are apparently looking at what will happen if games cannot go ahead at the piggery. I would imagine all teams will be doing that but it is essential the tarriers are made to look special. That is my take on it mate could be completely wrong.

“UEFA today met its 55 member associations via videoconference and presented an update of the options being looked into by the two working groups that were created mid-March.

A variety of calendar options were presented covering both national team and club competition matches.

The funding of National Associations through UEFA’s Hat Trick programme was also discussed with UEFA reiterating its commitment to meeting the payments to member associations as planned.

There was a strong recommendation given to finish domestic top division and cup competitions, but some special cases will be heard once guidelines concerning participation to European competitions - in case of a cancelled league - have been developed.

Any decisions on the above topics would be announced after the UEFA Executive Committee on Thursday. “

A cancelled league in my opinion isn’t one that’s conjunctive with gifting teams league titles.

Filth know any title is tainted if the season isn’t finished.

Here’s a thought, play games behind closed doors, no tv just broadcast on the radio, might stop folk congregating, only problem is we wouldn’t know if the scum or their biased refs were cheating

Doesn’t cancelled mean null & void anyway ? If something’s cancelled it means it hasn’t happened.

All about words though.

I would of thought so, UEFA is clear that games must be won on the park.

The scum leading the way in disease control discussions, having been the only club in the world who had to tell their supporters visiting their pigsty to wash themselves?

Could not make these people up.

Whatever happened to null and void ? Different terminology but marking a season as incomplete equates to the same thing.

No titles and no relegation with European spots as per last season. By all means distribute prize money on current positions.

That would be the sensible route to have taken and it would not have upset anyone based on the pandemic.

No tic title is the only reason this sensible solution has never been looked at.

It’s because in Scotland we have a bloated and shameless establishment club with no morals at the centre of our footballing universe and everything must orbit around her.

If it was us with the 10 point lead, there wouldn’t even have been a discussion.

As per ..... the DR must only get their partner's team positive coverage mate ...... due to the shambolic deliverance of the SPFL vote to forceably shut down the lower leagues on Bad Friday for the benefit of one team only ..... and the total silence from the piggery on the matter of a justifiable independent Inquiry ..... it's a nap that this rag will have been in touch with Hollicom for product to punt that their team are the only ones trying to lift the standards above ground level.

Typical deflection tactics that can only be attributed to bottom feeders struggling to keep their nose above the pond scum.

If Carlsberg themselves did this level of hypocrisy  ...... they would be well and truly fucking bankrupt.

After UEFA's Thursday meeting, I'm convinced the spfl will be left with egg on their face for trying to push through a corrupt resolution.

Just seen a thing on twitter there about it saying us being in Europe still could be a deciding factor in this due to how players are registered for competitions.

...... hold on a minute ....Oh!  the linesman has flagged ..... and the spot kick is to be retaken ...... from the six yard line .... apparently The Rangers keeper handled the ball in the box as it was goal bound ......  and Clancy nets again ...... now this is what I call soccer integrity .... and it screams the SFA/SPFL motto loud and clear ....... " Two "Separate"  Bodies Joined Together For The Benefit Of One" .....  just like a marriage ...... now you won't get fairer than that in Scotland ..... no matter how hard you scream and shout .....  :p:
