See that UEFA are apparently forcing through their changes for the Champions League tomorrow.

Skimmed over it and it looks horrendous.

• Increased to 36 teams.
• Every team goes into a single table.
• Play teams of varying strength and seeding - 5 home games and 5 away games for a total of 10 games.
• Teams finishing in the top 8 qualify for the knockout round. Teams 9-24 battle it out for the remaining 8 places.
• 2 teams that miss out on Champions League qualification will be awarded a place based on historical coefficent - Meaning Liverpool could finish 6th in the Prem and still go into Champs League whilst Everton finishing 5th would miss out.

 

The whole thing looks like an absolute shambles.

I don't see how the historical co-efficient qualification thing will fly with FIFA's publicised statements on sporting merit when they slapped down a breakaway league not being endorsed.

That co-efficient thing is about as daft as Celtic and Ajax trying to cook up that proposal for them to be in the Champions League every season as they had won it before.
