Tav is miles better.

Patterson is younger and therefore has more potential to improve and play for longer so is going to come with a higher value.

A lot of people are of the view that if we hold on to Patterson then his value will continue to rise and eventually we will get 15 or 20 million instead of 10. That's a possibility, but it's also a gamble.

Other plausible possibilities are that he could also:

Play out his contract and go for nothing eventually;

Get a career ending injury;

Not develop any further or regress when he has to do it on a consistent basis; or

Get a big contract and lose his hunger.

Lack professionalism and piss any potential away.

None of the above would  be rare occurrences for upcoming youngsters.

Folk seem to think that players just improve on a linear basis and their values continue to rise with the passage of time.  They don't.

Market values are subject to fluctuation we have seen it with Morelos, Barisic etc you need to move them on at the right time.

£10m for a guy that can't get in the first time time whose absence therefore won't affect performances seems a no brainer to me.

Everton should save themselves a good few million and buy Tav then.

We'll never know mate, will be at Everton warming their bench for an undisclosed £3 - 5million shortly.

Not quite the £15 million he was built up as by some

He’ll be a starter for them.

Shouldn’t even be up for debate tbh, Tavernier carried us through the first half of last season and has been great so far this season too.

Great this season is pushing it. Since Gio has came in yes. Hardly carried us for the first half of the season either.

Neither are good enough to take a mid table Premier league club to the next level.

Tav never will be good enough, Patterson, at the age he is, has room for significant improvement.

How is that difficult to understand? Everton aren't buying him for this season, or next season, they're buying him in the hope that he will be good enough eventually.

Because what you said was absolute nonsense in first place.

There’s barely anything between them just now and Patterson at 19/20 has had a better career than Tav already.

He's had no much more than a dozen appearances for Rangers, most as a sub, most he's been shite but a better career than a club captain and POTY candidate last season 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Last season I said, we were relying on his goals all the time

He’s an Internationalist and played at a Euro Championship and incase you missed this thread being linked with a 8 figure move to the Premiership.

Tav was a journeyman before Rangers.

Tavernier is 10 years older than Patterson. He'll have another good few years before regressing while Patteron's career is just getting started.

That's why Patterson is worth more, nothing to do with current ability.

Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Whilst both players clearly have talent, the worthier asset is in the younger player.

There is every chance Tav has peaked as he nears 30 whereas the potential for Patterson seems limitless.

I don't hear of Everton making an 8m+ bid for Tav.

Good thread btw, @DBBTB. This should have been done months ago.

Hopefully keeps all the discussion about it in here. Been a sidebar in too many threads recently

This is a bit like asking the question in 1997/98 who is better Ian Ferguson or Barry Ferguson.

Still Ian then but only a blind cunt or someone who doesn't know football couldn't see Barry was going to become a great if he was managed well.

Did the best manager we’ve ever had in the modern era not try and sell him to Hearts? Pretty sure he knew football and he wasn’t a blind cunt either :pipe:

Aye with SCOTLAND. He's competing for a place against some mug from Motherwell 🤣

Tav would have to displace the likes of  Trent Arnold Alexander, Reece James, Kyle Walker, Wan Bissaka, Kiran Trippier...

What games has he stood out then? Because I've watched every minute he's ever played in a Rangers shirt and Liege aside, he's done very little.

Antwerp for one, came on against the Tarriers at Parkhead and strolled it, strolled it against them at Ibrox too.

It is not who he is competing against to get into the Scotland team. It is how well he plays on the International stage that shows his worth.

His last two games for Rangers were against our toughest opponent all year away from home at Lyon and as a left-back in the league. Hardly fair and because he wasn't 8/10 in those games, people jump to the conclusion he is average.
