I'm assuming if the club that wins the CL this season isn't already in it, they'll take our place?

I dont think it matters. There are 12 European spots, 4 for the 4 year CL winners and 8 for the highest ranked teams in UEFA rankings, excluding CL winners, but only 1 from a single country. So a country can only have more than 1 participant if they have a CL winner. England will have minimum of 3 as they already have 2 CL winners, plus they will get 1 of the other 8 positions. Who wins next season's CL does not effect the rules regarding the other 8. It is effectively 2 separate selection processes unless the same team wins the CL twice in the 4 year cycle. There are then 9 spaces for non CL winners but the extra slot goes to the country of the double CL winner. For examlle if Man C win CL next season England will get 2 from the other 9 slots instead of 1 from 8. The other 7 selections are not effected.

Our biggest threat is Brugge as they are only 3 coefficient points behind us and are already in pot 1 of the Europa Conference Group stage. Would expect them to pick up a few wins in that and get to the knockout stages. Dedpite the fact we could be in CL they could well pick up at least 3 more points than us in the coming season.  We need to get through a couple of EL knockout rounds, either by being 3rd in CL group or being in EL group.

It is only based of 4 years including the coming season, so at this point usjng last 3 seasons we are on 38 snd Brugge 35.

Brugge being in the Conference League isn't good news

We either need to get third in CL and drop to the Europa or drop to Europa by not qualifying for CL to try to stay ahead

Our travelling support would do well in places like Qatar and Saudi Arabia, can't see any issues at all.

in fairness there is no love for Catholics in those countries so we would be fine

It’s actually going to be more lucrative for us if we don’t  qualify for the Champs League and get some decent coefficient points in the Europa League instead…

More fun too, IMHO.

UCL qual followed by third place. But we put ourselves in the luck of the draw that way.

So I assume the better the tournament the more points you get winning matches etc??

If we manage to qualify for this then the club is in line to pocket £25 million, which is the cost of the corner expansion. Just getting to this tournament could be transformation for the club in the long term

Which would be all the more gutting if we don't make it.

I want this more than anything I've ever wanted right now

Nope, there is a difference in tge guaranteed minimum but not per win and draw. You get 4 for being in the CL group, 3 for EL Group and 1.5 for ECL group. After that it is 2 for a win and 1 fir a draw for all competitions, qualifiers are 50% of the points.
