He’s played in the lower leagues of England for most of his career, and joined us when he was about to turn 33. He also didn’t become professional until he was 21, and combined playing in non-league with completing a university degree up until that point. Being at us was always going to be the peak for him, both financially and in terms of club size/level. Davy Vandenbroucke 26,523 Posted June 23 Share Posted June 23 It was also pretty obvious watching us warm up last season that McLaughlin was helping out with coaching Butland and McCrorie, similar to what Andy Firth did. His uni degree is in Sports Coaching, so it made perfect sense to have him as a third-choice who could also do a bit of coaching.
