PEDRO CAIXINHA has revealed it is a key aim for him to have Rangers players in the Scotland National Team.

The squad Gordon Strachan picked for the Scots’ wins over Lithuania and Malta contained no players from the Light Blues, but, with them now back on track for a play-off slot to qualify for next summer’s World Cup, Caixinha wants his players to be involved.

He pointed to the contributions of Bruno Alves and Lee Hodson at Portugal and Northern Ireland respectively, and hopes their winning feeling continues when they return to Rangers.

Speaking to RangersTV, Caixinha said: “It is important for our players when they go there that they receive minutes. It is also important for our players when they go there, that the national teams are fighting to be present in the great competitions of the world – and what better than a World Cup?

“It is important for them to come back, enjoy winning, and have that spirit – that is always good for us as a team and Rangers needs to have not only players in those national teams, but also we want to have players in the Scottish National Team.

“It’s one of the goals from us. We know they are doing well and we expect them at least to make the play-offs, and we want to have a contribution from our players in that run.”

Beyond the first-team, a number of Academy players have been playing for a range of nations at various age groups, and Caixinha has welcomed that as an important stage in their development.

He continued: “Things need to be viewed always as an overall from bottom to top, and if you have good players, and players who are having those chances and those minutes and those opportunities in the youth system at national team level, that means they have quality.

“We just need to track them and we just need to follow them and give them the right tools in order one day that they might be with us and also in the first national team.”

In general terms from the Academy, Caixinha was delighted to see the under-20s play so well and earn a very respectable 2-2 draw away to Feyenoord last weekend.

And, while seeing the benefits of the youngsters playing in such games, he equally stressed the importance for them to be tested against senior sides – as they were against St Mirren yesterday.

He added: “It is very important for them to have that type of experience and to be playing with the best players in their age group around Europe.

“It is also important for them – as they have this week against St Mirren – to play ‘men’s’ football. When you play with the best of your age, you see the different types of football across Europe which is important but you grow much more when you play men’s football, so it is important for them to also have that knowledge and experience which is part of the learning process as well.”

He's quite right, and it was something Warburton noted was a key to any future success for the club, that we should have more international level players. Thankfully, we have more players that play international football this season than in previous seasons, but a few more would be welcome as well.

There will never be any Rangers players in the Scotland team as long as the sellick cabal are in charge of the national game.

Anyway why would you send any of our players out there into the international arena only to be booed by their own fans?

I have noticed that this only happens in Scotland. No other international teams fans boo their own players because of the club side they play for.

Gerard Pique might disagree with that...

The more players we have involved in international squads, the better chance we have of attracting and keeping the best players. So ideally we want as many of our players involved in international football as possible. Can also help them develop as players.

Regardless of your feelings for the national side and international football in general, we as a club should be capable of not only attracting good players who play at that level, but also developing players to attain that standard. If you play for Rangers then your manager at an international level should be considering you for selection - which isn't the case at the moment. In that respect it's up to Pedro to get the players performing well and developing - and of course with the results to prove it - in time we'll have internationals in each area of the park.

Playing with your national team is a massive honour for a lot of players . If we get players into their national teams ( not just scotland) then it's any extra incentive when targeting players . Players won't be called up unless they're playing well so would only benefit us too .

If we have more players getting into the international teams it's better for us . They gain greater experience at a higher level and that should help us in Europe . It should also enhance their value if we want to sell. It's a fair point though about our players getting booed when playing for Scotland. It will be interesting to see what happens next time one of our players starts a game for Scotland.

Obviously Pedro not got it yet

The SFA conspired to kill us, wise up FFS we should not be assisting the Tartan Tarriers in any shape or form.

it should be made contractural that signing for Rangers you are prevented to play for "Grotland" and the reasons why.

You need to do a bit of reasearch Pedro, as to the reasons why of the last 6 years.

Never Forget or Forgive

That's irrelevant to having Rangers players in the squad.

Doesnt matter your feelings towards the team we should be providing 4-5 players each squad.

A club our size should be having the pick of the best scottish talent.

Well we don't because our players aren't good enough. It's that simple.

Our current crop of Scottish players are not good enough to get into the current national team.

We should be looking to have as many internationalists playing for us as we can, including playing for Scotland.

Failure to get into Europe past Christmas will have us looking for San Marino and Maltese internationalists at best.

No Scottish players would sign for us if that was the case.
