This.  Feels like (intentionally or not) the spine and foundation of the team is being sorted first and then the goals are the next priority.  Obviously a lot still up in there on who will leave, could be another 4 or 5.

He hasn’t put a foot wrong, but the games he’s played are not exactly a massive sample size to make a fair assessment either. 

Whether you rate him or not, making the decision to make him the number one on the basis of five end of season games where the pressure is completely off, would be incredibly ballsy and pretty risky.

The fact that we’ve spent so much money on ‘wasters or permanently injured’ means we really need to spend £5m in the best way possible, given our potential budget. If we’ve got £25m, for example, to spend then I’d take him for £5m, but if we’ve only got £10m, I wouldn’t. I’d rather spend it on someone I was confident could turn it on in our biggest games in the league.

I’ve very much been in the “if he was good he would be playing” camp, but it’s looking like an utter head scratcher that he hasn’t had a proper chance, especially when goalkeeper is an area where we’ve been weak this season.
We are almost in an awkward position now where you think do we really need to hand say Jack Butland a £20,000-£25,000 a week deal or should we persist with McCrorie, which comes with its own risk, because he’s still only played what four first team games for us.

There's no need to keep Arfield, he's never on the pitch. His wages would be better spent elsewhere as he doesn't need replaced.

Nope, it's imperative in modern football - particularly for a club like us who don't have huge amounts of money.
With managers in football staying in jobs for shorter periods of time than years gone by, we can't afford to chop and change players solely based upon a new manager's tactical preferences and desires. 
Done properly, a DOF ensures that the team has a coherent tactical approach and philosophy that spans beyond the reign of one manager and ensures that when a new coach takes over the players there will generally be suitable to his needs. Obviously a manager may have individual targets and the club can choose to pursue these if they fit the team's overall philosophy.
Football has changed and there's a reason basically every top club operates like this.

It matters not one fuck who is manager, Morelos will decide himself when he's going to be on it or having a massive binge eating sulk.  It's a gamble to offer him a contract but when you see what he can do, like he has recently, it makes sense. 
I don't fancy relying on Roofe, Colak (who appears ill suited to a Beale system) and a new unproven striker next season.

I like the sound of this but don't think so for first game of the season.  Can't see too many of the new starts all starting the first game.  Likely just Souttar, Colak and possibly Lawrence.
