Wesley Verhoek

After Kaunas, we still managed to attract the likes of Mendes, Edu and Davis to the club.

Yes but all of those players where not really needed by their clubs and had no prospects of European football and also didn't have many teams if any interested in them.

Verhoek has the chance to go to Ajax I believe and Juhasz probably wanted a crack at the CL.

I'd also like to point out the position we ended up in financially after going out and spend on those players.

Luckily it worked and they went on to earn it back by winning the League but I doubt we'll risk that strategy again. Especially under a novice manager.

Just because we're out of the Champions' League doesn't mean we can't sign him. If we continue our current transfer policy then he won't be here but I'd be amazed if we didn't up the ante transfer-wise in time for our next league game.

The point is that we can still attract quality. Verhoek could go to Ajax, but he's said he wants to experience British football. Juhasz just wants a change. I'll go out on a limb and say both will be here this time next week.

As for your next point, while it no doubt was a substantial factor in the financial crisis, there were a lot of other things at play. This year, we still have the Europa League, and to my knowledge, our owner hasn't taken a massive hit in a world wide recession. Time will tell though....

I hope you are correct mate.

Just giving the lack of investment in playing staff from our owner before the CL qualifiers I highly doubt there will be major investment now.

I hope to fuck I'm wrong though because if I'm right I fear for this season.

i agree with the folk say this guy and the defender should be made top priorities. hopefully we get this guy as i don't see champions league football being a problem with the other guy if we win the league we get it automatically next year

I hope he signs, but would not be eligible for Europe which is a shame. But we need to think long-term. This would get us all excited and give us a good lift. Would be our top signing and adored by the fans. Plus if he does really well, we have a player worth 10 million plus in a few years time. Its a no-brainer.

Exactly. Jelavic was still a great signing with or without Europe

I can't see us matching Fulham's £2.5M bid now. :anguish:

Is that bid official - i thought it was just dropped in at the end of an article by one of the rhags?

I'd really like to see us bring him in to get some decent service up to Jelavic from the wing
