Why does he keep chopping and changing the defence?

Is Helander carrying a knock?   I know barisic has been poor so far this season so fair enough on that part, but helander hasn’t put a foot wrong and Balogun just isn’t good enough.

I’m not so sure Helander can’t play 2 games a week, he’s done it before.

Think it’s just Gerrard trying to emulate last season but it’s not working this time constantly changing.

It’s Helander until a league cup game or injury from now on surely after that

If he can't play 2 games a week we need a stronger option than balogun to come in.

The defence is a big problem right now .

This was never a 2 goal game,  last season we'd have won this by 4 or 5 , but our defending is making games closer than they should be .

We have to tighten up as we'll not be get away with it next week .

I've always liked Balogun but today he was an accident waiting to happen. Changing CH's doesn't work.

He is a third rate player look his stats  a bench warmer everywhere he has been  only time he was a regular starter was in German lower leagues  less than 200 starts in his career and he is in his 30s !

Goldson - Helander is the best option.

Always feel for right footed defenders playing on the left. Goldson always gets the right hand side without question, but when Balogun, Katic or Edmunson before he left came in they always get the left center half position. At times when under pressure you force the ball into the wide area and clear up the line with your strongest foot. If your right footed you maybe want to take an extra touch or turn inside facing the center of the park if you then lose the ball suddenly your a poor defender. Today the build up to their penalty was from a throw in. Watch the highlights and see how the throw in is conceded, Balogun is looking for the ball to run beyond him then its a very simple right footed back pass, but the RC player chases it down and he ends up conceding a throw in. If Helander is playing he puts his left foot through it and clears up the line.

Balogun and Bassey were poor today. Helander is a better defender than Balogun and should start against celtic.

They will target him with balls in behind and look to take advantage of his lack of pace.

Whoever is playing LCM will need to sit a bit deeper and watch for those runners in behind.
