Prior to this season he was one of the best centre backs in England so for £7 million and at 26 years old it is a great deal for Chelsea IMO. Alex does not want to be at Chelsea and is now 30/31 so it makes sense to replace him with a younger able replacement. They will get £4-6 million for him so it pretty much evens itself out.
