Sounds like the scum will get community service, I'd much rather a fine than doing that shit again

I hope not - not because I agree about the stupid Act - because I'm sure it was that same sheriff who jailed the Rangers fan so the Celtic fan should get the same punishment

If your that offended at being called an orange bastard you need to man up a bit son!

Did you have the same opinion when the boy got done for singing the billy boys?

The Offensive Behaviour at Football Act or whatever it's called is a fucking joke!

The precident has been set & he should get done for it but only because of the precident set not because the 'crime' deserved to be punished!

There's freedom of speech and there's context inside football stadiums, but what the sellic fan did in the middle of the street was just your average case of causing a public disorder that you would always expect to get the jail for a breach of the peace for. You'd have got the jail for that before the new law and you'll get the jail for it after the new law disappears..

A Rangers fan was fined £200 for running on to the pitch at Hampden while a Celtic supporter admitted making sectarian remarks at the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Rangers supporter Dale Hill, 21, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, admitted leaving the north stand and running on to the pitch at Hampden Park on April 17. He jumped over the security barrier and towards the Rangers players.

Procurator fiscal depute Stuart Faure said he was chased by stadium security staff who were helped by police, who apprehended him. He was arrested and appeared from custody at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he admitted breaching the peace.

Sheriff Paul Crozier fined him £200 and said a football banning order was "not merited".

Celtic fan Sam Miller, 26, from Essex, admitted making sectarian remarks after the match.

The self-employed poker player pleaded guilty to breaching the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act by shouting, swearing, gesticulating and making sectarian remarks at Rangers fans and police officers.

Miller also admitted resisting arrest on April 17, at Hampden Park. He admitted the charges after being arrested at the match when police spotted him walking towards Rangers fans after the final whistle.

He was seen shouting and gesturing in an aggressive manner at the fans as they celebrated, and some were beginning to leave.

The fiscal, Mr Faure said: "He was shouting 'f*****g orange b******s'. Police officers heard him use that phrase repeatedly.

"The officers went towards the accused and told him he was under arrest and placed their hands on him.

"It was at this stage he deliberately tensed his arms making it more difficult for the police officers to take him in to custody."

Sentence was deferred until next month for reports and bail was granted with the condition he does not attend any regulated football match in Scotland.

Nothing disgraceful there at all.

He also threw a punch at the steward trying to stop him so tbh £200 fine and no banning order is pretty lenient.

Bear got 4 month in jail for singing the Billy Boys last year so there is the benchmark - not that I want to see anybody jailed for singing ffs.

4 months for singing a song. What the fucks going on up there :power_of_anguish:

He never done it in the street though.. It was inside Hampden! No wonder the atmosphere is dying in this country when people are being offended (or fearing a riot starting) because one of the tarriers lost the plot & called us orange bastards

gesturing, shouting abuse & having a go at rival fans comes part & parcel with big derbies! Any other country and the guy gets papped out the stadium & sent on his way or worst case scenario gets a night in the cells and a fine! Yet here they're looking at jail time?

Fair enough it was inside the stadium at the end (I've just re-read and it does indicate that) but the point still stands.

Him doing what he did is on a more personal and intrusive level. Singing is singing. Even if the language he used in his bigoted tirade is the exact same in the singing it's still different as he's going beyond the realm of football banter/rivalry/atmosphere and bringing his hatred to the fore by actually baiting Rangers supporters and using sectarian remarks in front of the Police. It's stupidity and as Inigo said that's nothing to do with the ridiculous bill as you would have got arrested for that in the 60's the same way you will in the 2060's.

no. Nobody should be getting punished. Its stupidity on his part but the randomness of this arrest when there is 50K in the stands is obscene. I would be saying the same thing If it was a Rangers fan giving it fucking fenian bastard and getting arrested.

Theres no big bad ones, theres no bad losers , theres no angels. Theres just a law that shouldn't be there in the first place because its unworkable. The fact its a cellic fan this time doesn't change that.

Think you miss the main point, he was instructed by the police to basically "shut the fuck up", he didnt, he continued his rant and was arrested.

Anyone can shout when emotional and angry, ignoring a police request is just plain stupid.

Unreal eh?

A Rangers fan who was arrested for sectarian singing while on his way to attend a game against Celtic has been jailed for four months.

Scott Lamont, from Glasgow, was heard singing the words of the Billy Boys song on Cathcart Road on 1 February.

The 24-year-old admitted the charge at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was also given an 18-month football banning order and told his behaviour would not be tolerated.

Sheriff Paul Crozier told Lamont's lawyer, Joanne Gray: "Glasgow has developed a good reputation in recent years.

"We had the Commonwealth Games last summer, we haven't had an Old Firm game in years.

"What happened at the first Old Firm game? People like him let Glasgow down."

'Ruin football'

The sheriff described the words to the song as "inflammatory" an said it "could have led to horrendous violence".

He told Lamont: "Your conduct on 1 February was the sort of conduct that the authorities had asked football loving fans to refrain from.

"A message has to be sent to those people who would choose to ruin football for the vast majority who want to go to these games, that you cannot behave like this.

"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated, certainly not by me."

Another man, Alexander Blood, from Saltford in Somerset, was given a community payback order after admitting acting in a racially aggravated manner.

Blood swore at police officers and called them "Jock".

As part of the order he will be supervised for 18 months and must carry out 160 hours of unpaid work.

He was also given a three year football banning order.

Everyone in that story is a fucking clown and deserves everything that's coming to them.

Don't punch the stewards after you've run onto the pitch and don't continue to call folk "fucking Orange bastards" when the police have told you to button it.

Doesn't matter what colour scarf they were wearing. They're a pair of daft cunts.

We'll just need to disagree then mate! There's no doubting how stupid the cunt was to continue his abuse after being told to stop but that's part and parcel with being one of them!

And of course, prior to the bill he may have got put in the cells for the night but would he be facing the possibility of jail time? Doubt it! He would have been let out the following morning with a fine at worst the same as the boy he went on the park from our end!

The law is black and white really but it fails to see the difference between banter and confrontation.

Singing a song or acting aggressive towards someone

Unreal

Yep, I used to criticise the old breach of the peace as it covered just about anything they wanted but it worked much better than this nonsense of a law. People are always liable to get too drunk at football but now they chuck sectarianism at them for singing songs. Imagine going to a job interview with that on your CRB. Religious Bigot, the interviewers would think your a loony.

Naw but we've had 4 T in the Parks and its cost us a fortune in policing and clean up and the behavior of some cunts at it is 10 times worse than anything you get on an OF weekend.
