That squad is full of bang average pish. Goldson, Soutter, Davies, Devine, Raskin, Dowell, Lawrence, Wright, Dessers to name a few.

Thought lowry looked decent as well. At least tried a few different passes and tried to get it into the final 3rd quickly.

 

Loads of concerns though . Big one being clements style of play, i'm still not sure what it is. Regardless of the players you have, you should still be able to put your style on things to a degree

70% of this squad are still pish, and rather than addressing the big rebuild that the football department needed, this board went for another legacy project, and it bit them on the arse and made us homeless.

Large chunk of our cash has probably gone on the stadium mess.

Not going to be too downhearted after the first friendly of the new season, but we so need to get rid of players many of them started the game, and better ones coming in.

I was glad to see some of the younger players showing up well in the second half.

Its pretty clear, I think. Get the ball forward as quickly as possible with direct play. Our problem, however, is that our passing and technique is pretty poor. If you have the right players, then that is very effective football. Find your man, keep the ball, get forward and into goalscoring positions. Clements teams scored loads of goals. We just dont have the players at the moment, unfortunately.

Both goals dreadful. Central defence awful and Buttland at fault both goals, 2nd one was a howler.

Dowell and Dessers anonymous. Raskin and matondo gash as was Lawrence bar his free kick goal. Sterling average.

Jefte looked OK. Barron and Diomande did well. Danillo and Lowry looked better and sharper than those they replaced.

Little shape or style of play of note.

Ajax weren't great, but far better than us.

Exactly what was expected there. Decent run out which reaffirmed what most already know; we’re about 7 first team starters short of half decent team. 
Thought Jefte and Barron looked decent, and Kelly’s two saves were top drawer. Lots of work to be done both in outgoings and incomings. 
 

Fully expect us to get another 7 in, at least 2 of which will be loans.

Not taking anything from that like I do with all friendlies. Squad still needs sorted and hopefully is done by the start of September. Don't see any issue with how we are trying to play, just the players we have to select.

Aye it was basically a re-run of the end of last season with the added insult of Butland also having a complete mare. Kelly came on for him at half time and ended up playing a blinder.
