I keep hearing about his numbers as the reason he needs to stay in the team.  The fact that he demands to take every penalty and almost every free kick surely must factor into that. Therefore, we don’t know if other players can do these things. So, we feel that we need to rely on Tav. It must also be demoralising as a player if you know you can take a good free kick or penalty but, never get the chance to show it.

To be fair we have very few players who can control or strike the ball cleanly and even fewer who are willing to take a shot.

I think people need to stop focusing on tav being the problem

our defence is always going to come in for criticism when the midfield are missing or too weak

We have consistently lost the battle in the middle of the park against that mob and until that’s sorted we are going to keep struggling in the OF games

My point is that we don’t really know that. It is always ‘Ma Baw Tav’. So, we don’t ever see someone else taking a free kick or penalty. It stifles the development of our other players. What is the point on working on these skills , if your captain is just going to take the ball from you at every set piece.

There's been other free kick and corner kick takers this season

The guys done and should’ve been sold and replaced in the summer but he’s not the only problem, taking him out won’t make a difference unless we learn how to play football

Only thing it’ll guarantee is Maeda not scoring every OF game but if Tav isn’t there to fuck up it’ll be the centre backs or the keeper anyway. Butland looking every bit as much a liability as Tav in those games

Past his sell by date, costing us more than any gains, looks half arsed, mentally scarred vs them, woeful captain. But aye, his numbers from past seasons make it worthwhile keeping him. Get him off the wage bill asap.

Numbers that are very slow to develop this season…

Tavs legs are gone and ge shouldve been gone , but and its a massive but , he doesnt pick himself , so knowing this like we all do , what is the managers plan to protect him / get the best out of him

This is a manager who moaned that players were being overplayed and this season would be different yet Tav still gets picked every week. Weird.

Overplaying would relate to too much game time in relation to fitness, would it not? Rather than just lack of form?

Can possibly get away with the keeper, but if hes talking about players not playing x number of matches because it adds to injuries blah blah - and tbf to Tav hes very rarely if ever injured - then especially for the older players, give them a bloody rest now and then.

We've been pumped that often off them on his watch, it could've realistically been any interview from anytime since 2016 apart from the covid season, utterly depressing.
