Big Bert Konterman has had his say on the prospect of McLeish or De Boer joining us:

If Konterman had his way then a dream team of McLeish, his old manager, and De Boer, his former Ibrox team-mate, would be the perfect scenario.

That would certainly be one way of fulfilling the director of football and head coach roles that Ibrox managing director Stewart Robertson revealed will be the way ahead.

However, that prospect looks far too ambitious for a club in Rangers’ state – falling short on the park, while lacking money and dogged with political issues at boardroom level.

Landing 58-year-old McLeish as boss for now would, in Konterman’s opinion, bring back stability to a club that seems to lurch from one shambles to another.

A deal to land De Boer would be trickier to achieve, and it may need a period of stability, the outlining of a clear plan and an injection of funds.

The 46-year-old has already managed Ajax and Inter Milan and has been courted by clubs in England’s Premier League.

Fellow Dutchman Konterman remains alarmed by the dramas at Ibrox, where he played from 2000-2003.

The Twente under-19 coach said: “I’m really disappointed at what is going on at the club.

“It’s not good for the image of Rangers and, as someone who enjoyed a great time at the club, it saddens me to see this. It’s not nice. It looks a bit messy.

“I think it would suit Alex and be good for Rangers if he could return to the club.

“He’s a big man who may have been an icon as a player for Aberdeen but became that way as a manager at Rangers.

“When I was his player at Rangers we had a love-hate relationship. I think I was too opinionated and sometimes that led to a collision.

“But if I looked in the mirror I would have realised that my performances were not at 100 per cent and I blame myself for the issues more than Alex.

“He’s a good man and his eyes are more open now than the last time he was at Rangers due to his experiences around Europe.”

According to Ronald de Boer, who also played for Rangers in the Noughties, his twin brother intends to wait until the end of April to see what options are on the table and is not prepared to take on a job until the summer.

Konterman added: “Frank’s situation is more difficult.

“I would question if he was really up for a move to Rangers at this stage.

“Of course it is possible and the fact he has not come out and said ‘no’ to the prospect shows he still has feelings for the club.

“But Inter Milan were operating at another level from Rangers and I don’t know if Frank is up for taking on a club with struggles.

“Only he could answer that and he has said he’s going to wait his time and see what offers come in and then make a decision at the end of the season.

“It’s not impossible that he will have a good feeling about Rangers and everything fits. He could like the chance to solve the puzzle.

“What I will say about Frank is that if he is interested in reviving Rangers then he will be 100 per cent positive about achieving the goal.

“Frank is smart, he’s a good team builder and would look at getting four or five years to build something in his way.

“But you never know if top clubs are prepared to wait this long.”

Konterman watched the Mark Warburton regime at Rangers with interest, having been impressed with the Londoner when he was a tutor on his UEFA coaching course.

And he reckons unrealistic targets at Ibrox contributed to his departure last week.

Konterman said: “I’m worried about the high expectations. It’s not fair to demand big results against Celtic in their first year back. That was very hard for Mark to cope with.

“I just hope there can be a period of calm at Rangers – that’s the best way for the club to get back to the top.”

The sickening thing is if we win every game till the end of the season we will be on the same points they are on now and they will still win on goal difference.:hairout:

14 games left so we could get 85 points - they are on 70 think you have forgot about the split the spl has

I wonder if Frankie is pondering the arsenal job?

The board have a big decision to make - do we hang around hoping that he will choose us or fix on a more 'realistic' target. Either way they will get slaughtered, most likely! (If he doesn't join)

If arsenal aren't lining up Thomas Tuchel to replace Wenger they are mad.

Tuchel who's took Dortmund to 4th in the Bundesliga and on the verge of exiting the Champs League in the last 16?

Aw wait, that is the ideal replacement for Arsenal
