Yep he gets it, when he says best fans in the world its true and he'd know, his cv is full clubs that are proper clubs, fans more passionate than the ordinary... I'm thinking Sunderland,  pompey,  West ham and to some extent spurs but were different class, we are the people!!!!

There is such a distinct lack of quality front men in football at the moment. Near enough every big side in Europe needs a clinical striker, outside Haaland the top finishers are all on the back 9 of their careers - Lewandowski, Benzema, Cavani etc. I think Defoe is someone most clubs would love to have around as a coach/mentor, not just for his natural finishing ability, but the attitude and culture he brings to the club. Would love to see him stay on here with the odd cameo appearance, whilst helping our first team and academy get better.

Brilliant interview....... just love the guy. Hope he stays another year or two at the club - even if it's only in a coaching capacity.

And to think that there arr some who wanted him to go in the summer (Bluenoz. Rangers No 1, Mols 94, graeme_4 for example).

I love Defoe mate and I really hope he hangs around but with the addition of Sakala and Wright, it is probably time to pass the torch. He was already excluded from Europe this year and his league campaign would be even less next year. I'm all for a coaching role but he doesn't seem ready for that.

Admittedly, those last two goals he scored shows he still has it. Tough decision ahead for the board. All depends on wages I suppose.

I was involved with some "behind the scenes" stuff with players over the last few years and there are no words to describe how much of a class act Mr Defoe is.

When there is nobody there to see, he is exactly the same.

An example was meeting a group of kids and two in wheelchairs were at the side. He asked me to go and find out there names (which I did on the quiet from their carers). He marches up to them " Hi - you must be Tommy and you must be Billy?" (I Canny remember their names!)

"My name's Jermain, welcome to Ibrox stadium". He then spent ages with them, loads of pics etc, gave me his car keys, and asked me to get some of his club publicity pics from the glove box, and his sharpie pen.

He signed dedicated pics for the two boys and shook their hands. He kneeled down to talk to them, so he was at their eye level and chatted away. Utter class.

I thanked him and said that was great. He replied "that took a couple of minutes of my time and cost nothing - but these lads will remember today for a very long time". The look on their faces when they thought he knew who they were was priceless.

I would pay his full year even if he never played. Every player who signs for this club, and all the youngsters, need to be taught until it is second nature thay this is what being a Ranger is all about. I'd have him here until he was 75 telling them just that 😀😀😀🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Compare this story to wankers like Windass who wouldn't give anyone the time of day unless he was ordered to (seen it myself) - they all have a lot to learn from Jermain Defoe.

Fucking cracking post that mate. Makes my day seeing genuinely lovely stuff being done by our players. Makes you proud to be a bear.

I'm a little surprised but don't have an issue with that. Those last two goals may have cemented the contract.

i think his season as a whole earned him the contract. have absolutely zero issues with him being here for another year and hopefully retiring with another league medal to his name, helping with young players and new signings (Sakala etc)
