Tav signs new deal

Good news,

Has his faults but like it or he's one of our best players, easily one of the best full backs in the country - if he could match his defensive work with the rest of his game he'd be the complete full back in my opinion (wouldn't be playing in Scotland though).

Same as Morelos, improved terms and length of contract adds value to their fee should they be sold this Summer (which hopefully they're not!)

... and if we've been rejecting offers for them then we have to be fair with them and pay them accordingly. Quite rightly.

My guess is that we will have inserted release clauses at decent fees in return for an extra 5 to 10k pw for both Tav and Morelos.

WBA offered 1.8m for Tav on deadline day. At least now we can say it's 6m or whatever and pay that or piss off.

Logic then dictates that if you value them at that level you pay them accordingly and everyone is happy. SG said this himself re Alfie

Great business this imo

Normally it’s players agents that request/demand release clauses in contracts, it doesn’t benefit the clubs.

We did tell WBA to do one, we didn’t need to sign Tav on an improved contract for that to happen. It will help us get a better fee if we wanted to sell him, especially in the last 12-18 months  but I think the fee is dictated more by the performance of the player.

Why would we want to have release clauses? Literally nothing to gain.

Of course a release cause can benefit a club

So Alfredo's on say 15k pw and prem team x say we'll give you 60k pw

They offer us £2m and we say no and we have a seriously unhappy player who has stated he wants to play in the Premiership

Get an agreement in place now that he can go (he wants to) but they must pay £10m and in return he can have a few grand more from us now

Everyone wins

Then you only get $10m when he could be worth $15m or more.

In any case, they don’t get to agree personal terms until a fee is agreed between clubs, so in your example - a $2m offer doesn’t get anywhere and no wage would be negotiated. If it worked like that the whole system collapses.
