Didn't know football had adopted the residency rule? Good move if it is true. What is the rule exactly? Rugby - resident for three of the last five years. Cycling, rowing and others - resident for previous three years. The residency rule is terrible. All the best young players in the world can move to the bigger and richer countries early in their careers and then play from them, making international football even duller. Imagine if Bale had never played for Wales and was now a Spanish international player without even being able to speak the language... But given its football we are talking about its wide open to abuse.

Can't see how it's a good thing in the long run as poorer countries will just see their best players snapped up by the richer countries, although obviously there will the odd case with merit. Imagine that now, it would be a cricket score. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Football_League_XI
