Imagine some Rangers supporters saying you are not a Rangers supporter because of a Political belief ?

Let’s cut to the chase ……… the Scottish pupil’s university education tuition wasn’t free - he/she just didn’t pay for it.

I paid for it, along with thousands of others in taxes, so why, when earning over £27K shouldn’t they have to contribute to the privilege they received and support up & coming students.

You do know that Scottish unis have the lowest % of ‘home grown’ students in the UK. This allows for more fee paying students, reducing a Scottish young person’s chances of getting to university in the first place.

Yes, let’s cut to the chase. I went to uni and was not charged tuition fees. My daughter went to uni and was not charged tuition fees. My partner is just finishing uni and has not been charged tuition fees. A Scottish uni education is free to Scottish pupils.

All my kids have had/are having free primary and secondary education as well. As did I, and you, unless you went to a fee paying school.

They also have had/are having free health care. As have I, and you (almost certainly).

They also have had/are having free dental care (eventually). As did I, and probably you.

But prescriptions are not actually FREE - do you think big pharmaceutical companies give it to Scotland for FREE. It has to be paid for, by revenue generated, meaning that money is cut from elsewhere, like drug rehab, etc leading to higher drug deaths.

‘Free’ Uni places have been absolutely slashed to allow fee paying students access to Unis - and again, it was never actually FREE, it was paid for.

You've really swallowed the Snat book of absolute pish & drivel if you believe it’s all FREE

Jesus wept - so anything that’s done by any government is paid for - is that really the argument your going for - in that case no governments done nothing for anybody as we all did it for ourself! Stunning!

See your last sentence there - ‘it’s the most favourable loan anyone can get’ - that makes it a debt. You can argue to your heart’s content, but it is a debt. And a 21 year old coming out of uni, with potentially £40k approx debt from uni fees is wrong, imo. The SNP don’t levy that debt. Fair play to them.

I agree that it shouldn’t cost anything, but I just find it strange when some people declare that students in the UK are ‘saddled with student loan debt’ etc when really it won’t cause them any hassle at all. Ironically a lot of people who think that student loans are fine or necessary went to University for free and got their maintenance paid in grants instead of loans.

I’m sure that makes sense in your head.

My ‘argument’ was much more than ‘free’ prescriptions & education - I’m sure you read it and I’m dying to hear your answers 😂

Anyway, would you care to expand on your previous answer to me that prescriptions and education are actually free?

Yeah, I’m sure you, your daughter & partner were not charged tuition fees BUT the education wasn’t actually free!

Don’t you understand that all these services you’ve mentioned actually cost money?

You carry on believing everything is free in your socialistic utopia.

I’ll carry on believing that they’re paid for, mainly through taxation.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.” ― Margaret Thatcher

I went to uni. I was not charged for it. I was given no bill, no invoice. No one elver asked me for money for it. My university education was free to me. It was free at source. Just like all the other examples I have given you. It still is in Scotland - thanks, at the moment, to the SNP. They are facts that you just do not wish to account because they actually paint the SNP in a positive light.

We all know that there is a taxation system within this country that contributes to university education within this country. Broadly speaking that taxation system also exists in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In those countries students do get a bill for their university education. It is not free to them.

Moving on to your quote from Thatcher, I’ll remind you of a relatively recent banking crisis within this country and how the banks were bailed out:

’The problem with capitalism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money’ - Left Winger.

So what you’re trying to say is that it’s not free then?

I give up - I think you wasted your time at university if you can’t see there was actually a cost to your education, whether you paid it or not. 🤦‍♂️

I knew we’d find something we’d agree on 👍

In an educational sense, anyway.

If you keep the pound interest rates and fiscal policy will be dictated by Westminster, Scotland is miles away from meeting the criteria for joining the EU but if the Frogs and the Krauts allow you to join and use the €, just to get it up the U.K., interest rates ect will be dictated by Germany. Unlike yourself I’m not an expert however it doesn’t seem very independent to me.

still ABE eh.

It’s a kinda mute argument we don’t actually have to be associated with any currency.
