Am sure Rangers would give Connor what he was after if it didn't reset the bar. If he wants 40kpw and we give him it any player could then ask for it that's the problem.

I'd give him whatever he wants btw he's always fit and a leader of men

Don't think the chances of him staying is solely down to money.

im surprised at him holding out, unless he is worried that he won't get a starting position next year. he's got a Scottish cup semi win against them, a Europa semi in the bank. you don't get that at most teams down south. he will never see Europe without taking the kids! :headwall:

He's only got five good years left in football. Work should be dictating his family life during this time, not his wife's desire to live in the midlands.

I'm assuming that is the reason.

Very shortsighted considering his position, attributes etc.

Think he has agreed a contract with someone in January when things weren't looking to good n now if he had the chance to reject it I think he would.

Hope we can actually give a player a good send off n not hold it against him if he does go.

The fact he hasn't signed a deal and is out of contract in the summer would suggest Goldson says it.

Goldson wants to stay and Rangers haven't offered him a deal worth what he wants.

Is there anything about the current circumstances that mean the above isn't true?

We can’t justify making him our highest paid player, when he has no sell on value.

We need to lower our wage bill and really the top earners at the club should be the ones with the most value to us on and off the pitch. Goldsons a solid CB and has served us really well, but he also makes a lot of errors and there’s a reason no EPL sides have came in for him.

CB is one of the few modern day positions where you can replace people relatively cheaply. We could easily bring in a free transfer on £20k p/w who gives us as much as Goldson does, rather than paying him £40k p/w plus the wage rises for all the other players on a similar pay grade to him.

If anyone at this club gets £40k p/w, it’s Alfie who deserves it from his transfer value and his contribution on the pitch.

Does he? How far off terms are we?

Was a hypothetical.

From what I've heard he's wanting a crack at the PL and proving he's PL-quality but accepts he's not going to get a move to a side where Europe and challenging for trophies is a given every season. If he signs up to stay here, he's never going to the PL as age is kinda working against him but knows if he goes, days like Sunday are largely just a memory for him. If he goes to the PL, he's not going to a Champions League club.

IF he was in a rush to go, he'd have signed a pre-contract by now.

Replacing him won’t be as easy as it sounds .Centre backs ain’t the way they used to be .Look at Harry McGuire as a perfect example .80m and a huge wage .

For every harry mcguire there's a bargain out there, and as much as he'll cost probably around 7mill if stories are true, vickers for the tarriers is more than good enough for our league and probably good enough for Europe with a decent manager

We might not get the same reliability in terms of games played as goldson, infact we wont, however ability wise we could
