Apart from 2005 and 2007 I don’t think I have ever enjoyed any of our campaigns. Was only a pup when Advocaat was in charge so didn’t really see us play in the tournament until 2003. The sides from the big 4 leagues are just so far ahead and have such squad depth, it’s impossible for sides from any other leagues to compete. People talk about Ajax getting to the semi final in 18/19 as almost a miracle, because it was. That shouldn’t be the case for a club that big with that good a fan base and youth academy etc. I doubt we’ll ever see a club from outside a big 4 league reach a final in the next 10 years, and I include the likes of PSG in that too. They should revert back to the way it initially was where only the champions of each country competed in it, and gave a good chance to the less fancied teams. All such a move would do is kill off the CL and UEFA, giving the “elite” teams the opportunity to create their much desired super league. UEFA know the power balance has shifted… this revamp is a hollow attempt at appeasing those who actually run football… the “elite” clubs and tv networks. Only 8 of the last 16 teams were in the knockouts last year. It's probably the most varied competition in football. People complained that it's always the same fixtures. This year there's more different fixtures with different teams than ever before and people are complaining they're boring. There's no pleasing certain people. Villareal knocking Bayern out to get to a semi final the year before. Lyon getting to a semi final a couple year before that. Wonder if people gret about it being the same teams when the EC started ans pretty much every final for years had Real, Inter or Benfica, sometimes both.
