SFA Refuse to release VAR audio to Rangers

A Rangers spokesperson said: “Despite repeated Rangers FC requests, the Scottish FA have so far failed to disclose the VAR audio to allow the club to understand the process around the non-award of a penalty in the first half of yesterday’s Old Firm match.

“Rangers officials stand ready to meet in-person or virtually with the Scottish FA at any time to hear and discuss the audio. However, the Scottish FA are refusing to both share the VAR audio and meet until at least Wednesday, five days after the Old Firm match and after the next round of Scottish Premiership fixtures. This is clearly unacceptable and heightens Rangers’ concerns over the lack of transparency, for which the need is urgent.

“Rangers have learned no penalty was awarded as the VAR official, Willie Collum, concluded a handball offence had not occurred in the first half. While the club and most observers are astonished by this 'professional' view, we remain perplexed and concerned about the Scottish FA's motivations for sharing an offside image with broadcasters during the second half, when this was not the original reason why the penalty was not awarded.

“England’s Premier League and other leading European Leagues operate on a ‘nothing to hide’ basis, where open communication and full transparency are available to clubs and the public on contentious VAR calls in a timely manner.

“On a weekend where not only Rangers but also fellow Scottish FA member clubs have major questions over potentially match-changing incidents, our governing body would do well to heed that same mantra."

Wow!!

We have such an amateur and incompetent professional body in Scotland.

Their lack of action speaks volumes as to the motivations and priorities of Scottish football. Transparency isn't on the agenda for them.

They also treat us with utter contempt.

We have them in a corner

Likely events:

Can't give a penalty against them at home, no penalty -> actually we've made an arse of it, say it was offside (sky show the lines diagram)-> fuck, the IFAB rules mean he wasn't strictly offside, stick with the 'no handball as was natural position' and hope they swallow it

That’ll be the same SFA who asked for the audio to be released when the McTominay goal v Spain was disallowed or wanted to mic up the hibs manager without knowing the rules…

Transparency, but only when it suits. It would have taken 5 minutes for someone to rip an audio file and send it to Rangers or the press.

They played the full English VAR recording on Talk Sport a while back, and it was interesting to hear it from the ref and the VAR room, even though they fucked up. The same should be happening here.

I’d like to see us go after the likes of Clancy, Collum and Welsh as well - drain the swamp. That refereeing performance yesterday was a disgrace. How Bernardo and that mutant Johnstone managed to stay on the park was nothing short of cheating. Not to mention the amount of fouls that cunt McGregor got away with.

Over my head with that - but thanks for enlightening me :tu:

Would we not be able to tell if it was altered?

I'm not an expert but it doesn't strike me as something that would too difficult to achieve. I do wonder though how hard it would be tell a doctored audio file.

Fuck sake, we're beginning to sound like that lot

They can doctor it if they wish but the Sky Commentators have heard the audio in real time.
