Goldson

It’s Goldson’s fault (still think Butland should do better), to even try blame Dessers is stupid

Goldson is to easily held off....if Butland holds his position for another second then I feel it makes Miovski chances of scoring a lot less....the minute he decides to come he opens up the goal.....Butland probably thought he could narrow the angle but ultimately he made a decision to try and bail Goldson out

I think Goldson is a good player but he gets caught on his heels too often.  Once Mioski got in behind him, it was difficult for him to anything without risking getting sent off.  Don’t think Butland covered himself in glory either.

Butland was always on to a loser there. Coming out it was relatively easy for Miovski to lift the ball over him, if he stayed back Miovski had the whole goal to aim for. 100% Goldson’s fault for me.

Wonder why we have the best defensive stats in the league?

If diddy Dessers could only control a ball aimed at him and give it to Cantwell who was clearly anticipating a knock down to him they wouldn’t have scored

It was a clearing header aimed at nobody and Dessers had 3 men around him trying to take it on his chest. If we can't defend a long hopeful punt then the forward isn't to blame ever.

When he receives the ball he had one man. His control was so poor (off his chest) he ended up getting crowded out.
Goldson wasn’t quick enough to react

Miovski x 2

good finishes but absolutely horrendous defending of straight balls.

So easy. Problem with having two slowish centre backs

He's got a guy literally touch tight at his back pressuring him and within a second he has Shinnie and Barron in front of him.

Can we not just accept that these two plus Shankland are the best strikers in Scottish football and are a handful for any defender not just Goldson. Give them some credit.(not too much though)

Don't think anyone would argue otherwise(too early to say Silva) but that doesn't mean we should accept pathetic defending time after time against them

Some folk will do anything to defend a player. Handful yes but to repeatedly lose the same type of goal tells he he doesn’t work on his weaknesses. The fact he continues to blame others around him tells me he thinks he is better than he is. Being our best defender is not a high compliment.

we have a pretty brilliant defensive record this year, but it could be better as as we are losing soft goals.

Watching it back he just gets beat in a foot race.

Once Dessers loses the ball there and it’s played first time over the top.

It’s just a sprint and Miovski is quicker. Maybe Butland could have been told to play a higher sweeper role as that’s a common goal they score?

Goldson can maybe grapple with him and block him off the ball?

Been pretty happy with our defence and still confident in that part of the team.

Miovski holds him off far too easily as Goldson has switched off to the threat. Is it just coincidence then that we keep losing the same goal?

We've got a very strong defensive record this season, which is probably all the more impressive considering the calamitous first couple of months under Beale.

Doesn't mean players shouldn't be held accountable when an error is made - particularly when we've conceded a similar goal on a few occasions this season.

Hopefully this is the last time it happens.

Agreed maybe he can be stronger (but he’s running the risk of fouling him at that point).

I don’t think he’s switched off. They both react at the same time. Miovksi is just rapid and has the legs on Goldson.

We’ve lost that goal a few times (on the whole the defence + gk has been the best part of the team)

Because one of our weaknesses is that we don’t have rapid Cb so we are always going to be vulnerable playing a high line like PC likes.

You can’t make Goldson faster. So as a team you make sure you don’t lose the ball in the middle and be open to balls behind like that.

You maybe ask Butland to step off his line a bit more to compensate.

Those would be the changes I’d make against the one or two strikers in the league that are really fast.

I honestly don't have much of a problem with how Goldson performed last night. With Miovski's goal he's up against a really good, strong striker. If he brought Miovski down people would be complaining about that, I think Goldson's options were very limited with that goal.

You talk shite but

No-one is saying otherwise but our defending at these goals has been shocking.

What else in your opinion could have Goldson done?

IMO he's either giving away a penalty or a shot on goal.

He is supposed to anticipate, be ready. He should have been much stronger before Miovski got near the ball. Not sure why you think it is acceptable to lose the same goal over and over again with the same ‘best defender’ involved.

I will leave it at that for now mate. It is all about opinions and ours differ greatly

Thought Goldson tried to body him when he realised he was wrong side but Miovski was stronger and held him off to finish, could’ve been worse as he was close to pulling him down which would have been a straight red.

No one else’s fault apart from Goldson, who hasn’t been great over the last few games, hopefully sorts himself out.
