Even if DK and the rest put in 50 million over 4 years (or whatever he said), how do you compete with that?

If they qualify in the next couple of seasons, we've got problems. Real problems.

It will be hard for us to catch up on them given the financial advantage they will get if they manage to regularly get into the CL.  However, the one thing in our favour is that there is a glass ceiling they will batter their heads against, the same glass ceiling we struggled with during the 1990s (only worse because Scotland is now even more of a backwater than it was back then).  Unless they can negotiate a route out of the SPFL (highly unlikely), they will continually be limited by that ceiling.

As looks likely, they are going to win the league this year by a wide margin, they may even win the cups.  If they do, what's in it for Rodgers, Dembele, Sinclair to remain with them.  Rodgers in particular is up here to raise his stock so he can get a reasonable job down south or in a big league.  My guess is he will jump ship as soon as any suitable offer is made to him.  The Champions League is a bit of a red herring, the best they are ever going to do is make up the numbers in the initial group stages like they did this year.  Yes, they still make big money compared to us, but gIven that there is always possibility of getting tonked out in the preliminary stages, that not going to be an attractive option to managers/players trying to build up their reputation to get a move to bigger /better leagues.

As i said at the start, overcoming the financial advantage they have will not be easy and we may have a long wait to get back to the top.  However, they are going to have to continually recycle their management and players every 1-2 seasons, we can only hope that they get one of these rebuilds completely wrong (similar to what we did in 97/98) and we can step in to take advantage.

Guaranteed CL next year, so unless they don't make the league stages we will be fucked, someone has to bite the bullet and invest, they have to be stopped next season otherwise we and the Scottish game is fucked

Sellic made 20.2 million euros in 2012/13 from prize, participation and TV money alone (not including their cash for qualifying for the last 16). That's confirmed on the UCL website. It's gone up significantly recently, so 25 million Euros before ticket revenue sounds about right.

Like it or not, sellic will make £30 odd million from UCL this year. It's fucking scary how much of an advantage it gives the participants. It's designed to develop a self-perpetuating limited elite.

Well that's fuckin depressing!!

Very doubtful.

As someone who grew up in Northern Ireland during the worst of the Troubles, I lost count of the various left-wing organizations and people who would spout ignorant support for the IRA. Just look at what has been elected leader of the Labour party. And he isn't a one off.

And didn't Stalin kill more people than Hitler?

I'm amazed that 'left-wing' is seen as some kind of synonym for 'good'.

From what I can see it's very much a synonym for evil.

Was it not yourself Danny who coined the phrase armalite and ballot box? :sarcasm:

In Euros... 12.7 million for group stage participation, 1.5 million for the three draws, 11 million in market pool. That's 25 million.

Add on 7.5 million in ticket sales and you're looking at them making in the order of 32 or 33 million Euros minimum. What's that, about £28 million minimum or so?

yes thats around it. I seen it broken down and the BT money now plays a huge part...

CELTIC will be handed a minimum of £26million for making the Champions League group stage.

UEFA announced the figure, which is higher than expected because of the market pool payment has been confirmed as nearly £900m from exclusive UK TV providers BT Sport.

The market pool is cash that is distributed based on the value of a country’s TV market.

But Celtic will receive less than an English club at the same stage because the Hoops have been lumped in with the UK as there is no Scottish TV deal with European football’s governing body.

The figure of £26m is the least the Glasgow club will earn because it doesn’t include gate receipts, matchday revenue or lucrative hospitality packages. Neither does it count prize money for winning points.

Not much laughing going on in here, could change the thread title to the lets big up the tims

Remember when big Eck destroyed the over exaggerated M O N by winning 5 out of 6 trophies in his first 2 seasons, considering the finances they had at the time, what a glorious feat that was.

Who will ever forget his Rangers team clawing back that lot on Helecopter Sunday after leading us by 5 points with 4 games to go.

Also a would rather live with our history, than theirs

Your figures will be close

what's never put out there is the deductions that will come with that

bonus payments for 1 fritzel and lieswell will be well into a 7 figure sum between them just for qualification ,players bonus too won't be much less ,then there are the costs involved too ,extra match day costs ,travel and accommodation costs for away games then vat on ticket sales too

they will still walk away with 15m plus ,but the fact that they tried to sell one of their defenders on deadline day for 3m rather than splash the cash indicates that the coffers aren't overflowing

Looks like West Ham have bid £20 million for Dembele.

'To that end, a bid of £20m – a figure close to the Club’s all-time transfer record – was submitted for a player from Scotland.'

£19.5 million profit in 7 months. That's fucking dispiriting. Hate to say it, but they're good at this scouting lark.

Tims have always had a good talk on them to be fair.

I mean they were touting Bitton for being 10m but now he's going for 2m. Funnily enough it's the same team that's offering us 2m for Kiernan apparently.
