With youth players it’s about bringing them in to a settled and professional first team squad. We don’t have that at the moment so it’s not the right time.

I get what you are saying but we have heard this all too often, players will play better when they are playing with better players, but guys like Murphy and Dorrans were supposed to be those better players to drag the rest up a level.
Spot on and both have been underwhelming to say the least.
Add Alves and Martin to that list as well. Players with vast experience at higher levels than the Scottish Premiership and should hit the ground running and been a revelation but its not worked out as we had planned.
Go back another season...Kranjcar, Barton, Senderos.
We have a bad habit of brining in players who should do well but for whatever reason they never do well.

Not being sarcastic at all mate, lots of people on here berate Tav and John for their poor defending so if we replace them with good defenders who concentrate on that then Murphy would be pretty hopeless given that he is being excused by some because Halliday doesn't offer as much attacking support.
For me that is all it is, an excuse for an underperforming player who people had much too high expectations of because he played in England, i remember the line "he's only been kept out by a 15million pound player" etc etc.
He wasn't good enough for Brighton and hasn't shown he is good enough for Rangers. The fee is rumoured to be as high as 1.8million.
For 1.8m I’d be expecting far more in return.
Its all conjecture at the moment and that’s the trouble when you don’t have the money to take gambles you need to be certain players are going to perform.
Loan deals are good in that you get a chance to evaluate players in person and see if they are what you want or not.
So Russell Martin was a loan (thank fuck) and we can see he’s not good enough. Cummings is another who like Murphy people say they have people if we do this and that so again it’s conjecture.
If we sell windass and don’t sign Murphy then we need to get a left winger in and depending on where we look we may well be paying close to 1.8m (Middleton is getting rave reviews for the development side but I don’t think we are in a position to say he’s a first team player yet).
I don’t keep up with up and coming players for other clubs as much as I should so I’ve no idea if we can get better for the same price.

So if we get what a lot of people want and being in a full back who concentrates on defending, then there is no point keeping Murphy?
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not
The players we have and our tactics need to be a good match. We’ve seen the problem of shoehorning players into positions they aren’t suited to. It doesn’t work.
If we can afford variety in each position e.g. defensive minded fullback and an attacking wingback type, then that allows us to have one formation where we want overlapping on the flanks and one where we don’t. Murphy suits the overlap but not so much the defensive fullback approach.
We’ve had players in the past that get the ball and simply start running at the defence and take them on regardless of supporting players, for example Weiss, and they are best suited to having a defensive minded fullback in support to pick up the pieces if they lose the ball.
Im tired of us having one formation and one approach as the predictability is used against us and we have no way to specifically counter threats or exploit weaknesses.
Put it this way if Murphy could be signed for 500k then fine but 1m+ I have my doubts.
-
I’ve said it previously that our squad’s performances are dependent on confidence. When confidence is low the players aren’t up to it and no one seems able to pull themselves up and grind out a solid performance.
Murphy has struggled since John has been out as John overlaps and draws the opponents down the wing allowing Murphy to cut inside as he’s an inside forward not a winger.
I do believe with better players in the first team he’ll be better but the question is will he be good enough?

Losing his mum at the same time as being told he’s done at Cruz Azul, we don’t want him back, he’s got drinking problems and he has money.
Sad to say but this is only going to get worse for him.

Yku have to feel for some of our younger fans and the shit they’ve had to suffer through don’t you?
At least if you are sort of 28/29 plus you’ve got memories of real top quality players, games and moments to look back on.

It’s his name and his image so it’s his money.
Would like to see him doing the sort of stuff he’s doing with Liverpool this week but under the Rangers name and using his name & face to get the Rangers brand out there
I know what you’re saying but I’d prefer it if he focuses on getting a winning team together before we start thinking about promoting the club around the world.
Pre-season tour and winter break are great opportunities for this but first and foremost sort out this squad of shitehawks and get us winning and feared again.

June 1st can’t come soon enough.

Thought we were getting a bespoke design rather than a stock template.

One less year on contracts equals less transfer fee.
Could be a reason why cardoso hasn't made bench even when we had no cover at CB and that's because someone wants to buy him and we don't want him injured.
I think we'd struggle to give some players away tbh
The wages we are giving these players will be above the market average for someone of their ability that means they are likely to have to take a pay cut.
Mind you if we managed to get rid of Kiernan for a fee then anything is possible.

Contract wise we have:
2018
Miller2019
Alves
Wallace
Hodson
Kelly
Forrester2020
Dorrans
Candeias
Halliday
Jack
Foderingham
Herrera
Pena
Holt
O'Halloran
Alnwick
Cardoso
Rossiter
Dodoo2021
Tavernier
John
Windass
Morelos
Docherty
McCrorie
From the list above you can see the mistakes we have made in that 2020 is the year that we really needed to be this summer and the thought of holding onto MOH, Herrera, Pena, Cardoso, Dodoo, Halliday for another two seasons
Out of those in 2021 apart from McCrorie and Docherty (as I'd like to see what he can do with a proper coaching team) I'd be quite happy to let them go too.

Typical example here of what McCrorie offers in midfield:
He spots the danger, he's quick enough and strong enough to get to the man as soon as he gets the ball and then muscles him off the ball and breaks away.
I suspect if we can work on McCrorie's passing (accurancy and range) he will be a special player for us.

This summer is going to be massive for our club since there is as much importance of selling players (or mutually termination of contracts) as there is for the players we bring in.
The gaffer has already spoken about the qualities he is looking for....
Quote“I have been around footballers for a long time – I’ll work out very quickly who fancies this challenge and who wants to come with me.
"And if there are people who don’t fancy it and want to be somewhere else, good luck to them.
"I want players who want to come with me on this journey, who want to take the challenge to everyone that’s in this league and are willing to give everything they’ve got. I’ll work out these people very quickly.”When pulling together this image and going through the squad it makes you realise just how much work will need to be done in order to clear out the squad this summer to allow the manager to get in the right people. I have no idea how Allen (and agents) are going to convince teams to take on some the majority of the players.
Some might be easier to sell than others such as Morelos, Windass and Wallace and I think its something we need to look at doing as these three players could generate a fairly sizeable addition to the transfer kitty.
Other like Pena, Herrera, Alves, Halliday, Hodson, MOH, Forrester and Dodoo might be more difficult to move on especially if they are on decent money here they may just opt to run their contract down (or wait for that compensation payout from the club).
Mark Allen had better be a good salesman as well as having an eye for talent if we want to give the manager a clean slate to work with.

On,y help he’d be if he looked at the scum starting XI seeing magnets on their shirts and drank the whole team.
Frustrating as he clearly had something and pissed it all away.
I detest footballers like that. You have something we can all only dream of and you waste it.

Hope he pulls through, too many of these things happening now.

The sides finishing second and third in the Premiership enter at the first qualifying round stage and the Scottish Cup winners come in at the second qualifying round stage
Not sure who the 2nd round qualifying goes to if they win the cup
Ah right, has that changed then?
Either way we should be 2nd at a bare minimum and it’s embarrassing that we are fighting with the diddies for it

2nd...4th, both will get Europe, makes no difference...we are treading water util Gerrard arrives
Finish 2nd and we have a later starting date and fewer rounds in Europe.
New manager and new squad need friendlies rather than European qualifiers.

Looks a totally different player when played as a defensive midfielder (or guessing as a stopper centre half in a back 3).
He’s got a future for sure.

Can’t agree with that.
Thats a leg breaker/career ending tackle right there, DIRECTLY INFRONT of the ref.
How many months have we had jack and Dorrans out for following challenges that went for a yellow?
Its one thing if decisions are costing goals, games, points etc. but it’s another thing when re players at risk of severe injuries and the perpetrators get away with a yellow. It doesn’t exactly deter those making those challenges from doing the same again.
We then wonder why we can’t get talented players to come to play in Scotland and that’s exactly why.
