Anyone know anything about Mitchell?

If Rangers can entice Paul Mitchell from Tottenham to be director of football it will be a real coup

Young, driven and not motivated by cash.

As far as CV lines go, that might just tick every box in Rangers’ search for a new director of football.

And if Karl Robinson’s assessment of Paul Mitchell is anything to go by, it’s easy to see why Spurs’ head of recruitment is high on their list. The 35-year-old is currently serving his notice after resigning in December.

It’s been reported that Mitchell has found it tough working alongside Tottenham’s
chairman Daniel Levy and has felt restricted in the work he can do.

Mauricio Pochettino is trying to find a replacement for the man he took to White Hart Lane from Southampton – and it’s proving difficult.

Mitchell is expected to officially leave in the summer and that’s why the Ibrox hierarchy view him as a serious candidate.

No-one knows the talent spotter better than Charlton Athletic gaffer Robinson

He gave Mitchell his first job at MK Dons in 2010 and the former Wigan player hasn’t looked back since.

Southampton came calling before Pochettino lured him to Spurs two years ago. And Robinson isn’t surprised that Rangers are considering him for the position – and he says it’ll be a coup if they can lure him to Glasgow.

On the other hand, the Addicks boss believes the stature of the Ibrox club is still a huge attraction to anyone in England.

And Robinson reckons his pal would be excited by the challenge of taking Gers back to the top of Scottish football.

Mitchell is credited with finding the likes of Sadio Mane who joined Southampton for £11million in 2014 and was sold to Liverpool for £34m.

But Robinson insists it’s not just scouting players that makes Mitchell special – it’s the work he does behind the scenes that safeguards a club’s future.

He told MailSport : “If Rangers go for Paul, he’d be a terrific appointment. If you look at the clubs he’s been at, MK Dons, Southampton and Spurs, he’s always had amazing success.

“He’s been able to capture players for those clubs who have gone on to be really successful.

“And Paul’s a top fella as well. He started working for me at MK Dons many years ago and he’s gone on to do really well.

“He’s been very successful wherever he’s been and that’s why he’s so highly regarded within the game now.

“That’s testament to the man himself and he deserves real credit.

“He’s so driven as a person. But more importantly, he’s not driven by money.

“That means that when he’s doing a deal, the player in question has to want to play for the club or it won’t happen.

“Paul’s very clear and precise in his message. He managed to bring players like Patrick Bamford to MK Dons, who was a big part of what we achieved during that period of time.

“But it wasn’t just about the players Paul brought in for us.

“It’s about what he set up behind the scenes for MK Dons to carry on as a club.

“He was then involved in the Southampton set-up and look at the players they’ve brought in over the last few years.

“I believe he was an integral part in getting the likes of Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic to that club and everyone knows how successful they’ve been. He
obviously helped get Dele Alli over to Spurs as well after seeing him as a kid at MK Dons.

“I still speak to Paul because our kids go to the same school. So I see him on the school run quite often. He’s a really good guy.”

They have vowed to take their time with any appointment as Graeme Murty continues to take interim charge of the first team.

And despite lying third in the Scottish Premiership – streets behind Old Firm rivals Celtic – Robinson is adamant that jobs at Ibrox remain sought after.

He knows that, after Warburton’s tenure, the club must now take the next step to challenge the Hoops at the top of the league for titles and Champions League places.

And Robinson feels Mitchell would relish that prospect. He said: “Regardless of what anyone says, Glasgow Rangers are still one of the biggest clubs in the world. They’re an institution.

“Glasgow is a great city as well so it’s a job that people like Paul might see as one of the best challenges in British football."

Id love a appointment like mitchell, spurs youth pool is ridiculous

If he could entice some.of these young players over the border would be marvelous...cameron carter vickers (cb)and marcus edwards (cam) would be a vast improvement on anything we have at the moment

Wouldn't mind Mitchell on board at all. Good at getting homegrown talent and has an eye abroad as well. Could tell that the only 2 signings he didn't authorise at Spurs ended up being the worst in Sissoko and Janssen.

Janssen you could let whoever signed him away with because he had a great season before they signed him but whoever signed Sissoko for 30 million should have been sacked on the spot.

Levy should sack himsel then! ? Could tell that Janssen wouldn't fit at Spurs a mile away. A good lower table player if you play him week in week out. No use as a back up.
