I always thought he just knocked them back, didn’t know he failed a medical.

It's not been confirmed just rumoured, he's been injured 2/3 times since and nobody with a functioning brain is turning down a Premier League chasing club to stay at Hibs.

They are but when he's only scored 6 and 4 from open play, it changes the picture a bit. He's not likely to be our pen taker were we to sign him. We need more goals from our midfield, not more midfielders who don't really offer much in the way of a goal threat.

Maybe not but he could have been the replacement for Lundstram/Jack long term.

celtic are on course to win 5 trophies from the last 6 available and the only players who came from within the SPFL in their side who play regularly are Greg Taylor and Callum McGregor (and he was homegrown).

We have guys like McGregor, Jack, Davis & Arfield, all guys who fit the “know what it means” narrative and although some of them have performed well individually, they’ve been big players for us in half a decade of mainly repeated failures.

To be successful you need good players. It’s really as straight forward as that. Filling the squad with mediocre SPFL shite who “know what it means” isn’t going to take us up a level quality wise. It’s going to drag us down to the other teams level.

You are right about this, but we need a mix, not balanced but both.

Least he would not dive/duck out the way of an oncoming ball 🙄

Even if you were right, don’t think that’s the best metric to measure the quality of a defender but each to their own.

Do you genuinely think Porteous is better than Goldson?

We need guys who can battle, but I think if matters not a jot where they play currently, or where they have come from tbh.

Sometimes it comes from unexpected sources too. Didn’t expect Cantwell to get about as much as he has.

You also get a lot of people who mistake that for “getting stuck in” when in reality it’s just a player panicking and being overly aggressive to try and over compensate for the fact that they’ve fucked up.

Actually think under a decent coach there’s a decent player in Porteous somewhere, but there was too much history and baggage for him to ever be a viable option for us.

Plus he’s a fanny off the park in his private life. Absolute magnet for trouble.

Have heard Millwall wanted him to undergo another op on his knee to clean a few bits up and he was against it so it all fell through.

Strange one, you'd think someone with lingering knee issues would want to take what would presumably a massive wage rise.

I’m not sure the wage jump was (relatively) all that big tbh. Think with the possibility of signing then spending months out and immediately being behind the curve makes it much less attractive; especially when the player is confident they are fit enough to go without the need for another op.

Shankland, Nisbet, and Ferguson were not the answers.

Clarke seems to get the best out of Porteous, so perhaps he is better than I thought, but he's got a face you wouldn't stop punching. I would have hated us to sign him.

I've said for years we should have signed Hickey when at Hearts, and now he is worth a fortune. Choosing Doig would have been a better option than Ridvan.
