Can't keep ripping it up, because we don't have the one-off cash injections to fund the transfer fees unless we sell assets first - but in the squad right now, I'm not sure I see much value.

Yes I don't see many teams lining up to sign Lammers, Dessers, Sterling etc

Not to excuse the piss poor signings, but to convince any player outwith scotland to come here probably takes a lot more wages than it does to convince them to play in holland

Weather, location, standard of opposition, rest of Europe perception of league etc

Put it this way, if us and PSV both chased the same out of contract player, and offered the exact same terms, right down to the penny in bonuses etc, 99 times out of 100 the player will choose psv

Clearly, on the basis of tonight though, we aren't going after the same players. We're totally overpaying mediocre players who wouldn't get games at our "rival" teams anyway.

PSV paid 27 million euros for 2 players. The Dutch tv money  is 6 times more than that for SPFL. Loan players from Barca and Bayern. However, they recruit so much better with a type and style in mind to suit their system while we seem to recruit from a narrow field every season, Belgian league last year Dutch this tear with no seeming strategy in mind.

I’m hanging fire on some of the players until they play under a competent manager tbh.

We tried to get Veerman, he knocked us back for PSV, we got Raskin.

Last year we wanted Xavi Simons, he choose PSV.

Last year we had Tillman, we wanted him again, he didnt want to come back and went to PSV instead.

They are just clearly a step up the ladder from us in terms of attractiveness to play for.

68th highest spending team in Europe. Higher than PSV, Union Berlin, numerous other La Liga / Bundesliga / Serie A teams.

Why aren't we getting value for money?

Dont want to tarnish all the new players yet (still think its early) but in general and for years we aren't looking in the right places and, maybe most importantly, we aren't developing our own.

PSV tonight had 3 of their own in the starting line up, 2 who featured from the bench and 1 who was unused sub that did feature last week. We had 4 of our own there to make up numbers on the bench. Talented players who are home grown and typically cost less.

We lose these sort of players that could step up to England. Sure Brexit means signing young talent from teams like us is infinitely easier than if they were to go to teams in Europe. Our youth setup that feeds in is basically the scraps the other teams dont want.

And the Dutch teams results in Europe show it. Looking to 2/3 years in the future they will overtake France in the coefficient.

And if you listen to certainly people we weren’t interested in Veerman.

Did we ever offer Simons’ a contract?

Isn’t that mostly funded with player sales though?

They’ve brought in over 100 million in player sales the last 2 windows.

Like Ajax they have a better scouting network and sign good young talent.

We were clearly in for Veerman. Im sure any noise otherwise is just to mask that we failed to get him.

I doubt that we got very far in the pursuit of Simons, almost certainly not to offering a contract as he probably laughed at the idea of coming to us.

Scottish TV deal is £30m a season, think the Dutch one is €200m a season.

Again its easy to sign the good young talent simply because scottish football is seen as a neanderthal backwater shithole of a setup

Our scouts could be the best scouts in the world, but any player with potential for being sold at 8 figures is going to choose holland over scotland every single time

Thing is they know they wont get a game here either though. There is no path to first team football unlike PSV who give players debuts at 17/18 and slowly build up their games then sell them for mad money.
